Apple pie is amazing. Fried food is amazing. So what if there was a way to mix the two? And this, ladies and gents, is how the apple cinnamon ring was created. It's crispy, it's sweet, it's spicy, and it tastes like a little taste of apple pie if you were to get apple pie at a carnival. AND...it's actually easy to make at home. I will warn you of this though...once you realize how easy it is to make and try it for yourself, it will be hard to not want to whip up a batch every day. Because now when I get a craving for apple pie but don't feel like putting in the effort to make pie...I know that deep fried deliciousness is only minutes away. That is a dangerous, dangerous game.

What you'll need:

- 1 cup all-purpose flour

- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 cup buttermilk
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 3-4 apples

The method:

Whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and cinnamon. In a separate bowl, beat your egg and buttermilk together. Combine your wet and dry ingredients together. In a separate bowl combine the sugar and cinnamon. Set this aside. Slice your apples into 1/4 inch slices. Use a small round cookie cutter to punch out the core of each slice, leaving you with apple rings. Heat your oil on medium-high heat. Meanwhile, take your apple slices and dip them into the batter, covering them completely. Fry them in your oil, turning halfway through. While they're still hot, dip them in the cinnamon sugar. Now you basically have apple pie rings ready to be dipped into caramel. Mmmmmmm.
