Google Earth Takes A Photo Of A Giant Spider

Google Earth Takes A Photo Of A Giant Spider

Anyone who's been bored while researching maps has probably fooled around with Google Earth a little. After all, it offers us a view of the entire world and, as we all know, the world always has something strange going on. These oddities are out there just waiting to be discovered and a map of the whole world made from stitched-together satellite images seems like the perfect way to find them.

Indeed, we've talked about exactly what curious Google Earth users have found while combing through the world's surface, but lately, there's been a lot of buzz about a new, bizarre discovery.

At least, that's what it appears to be. Let's just say there's a lot about this picture of a "bus-sized spider" that's shrouded in mystery.

COMMENT and let us know what you think it is.

Last week, a YouTuber named MexicoGeek posted a video of this strange sight.

This was supposedly found on an island off the coast of Mexico.

MexicoGeek called it a giant insect,

yet others counted the legs and said it looked more like a spider or a crab.

In any case, it certainly looks big.

When this was shared on UFO Sightings Daily, the blog's owner figured the creature was big enough to devour an entire person.

There's just one little problem with all this buzz.

Aside from the question of what giant spiders have to do with UFOs and aliens, of course.

Nobody who claimed to see this spider has released any coordinates.

Normally, you would jot down the coordinates shown on Google Earth when you find something like this.

The fact that nobody did this led many to think that either MexicoGeek or someone before him doctored the video to make it look like a giant spider was appearing on Google Earth.

Even if the video is real, there's likely more going on than meets the eye.

There's a phenomenon called pareidolia in which our brain makes us see familiar patterns where none actually exist. This phenomenon is why we look at this house and see a face with half-open eyes rather than just oddly-covered windows.

So if it's not a spider or crab, what is it?

It's hard to say, but some suggest it could be simple staining or a buildup of algae on one of the rocks.

Another theory states that we could be looking at a cave opening.

Honestly, that's a much cooler idea. Forget a giant spider, how about a whole spider cave?

Personally, if this turns out to be a hoax, I'm going to be pretty disappointed. You can't just get our hopes up about spider caves and take that away.

Be sure to COMMENTand tell us what you hope this thing is.

People Are In Love With These 8 Bizarrely Beautiful World War II
Monuments

People Are In Love With These 8 Bizarrely Beautiful World War II Monuments

In the 1960s and 1970s, former Yugoslavian president Josip Broz Tito implemented a massive art program showing off the strength and confidence of the former Socialist Republic. Millions of visitors and "young patriots" of the Republic came to visit the symbols that stood against the fascism that had existed in the region for some time. During Tito's time in power, hundreds of these Spomeniks (otherwise known as monuments) were built.

One photographer, Jan Kempenaers, has captured some incredible photos of these monuments for you to see.

Here are eight incredible Spomeniks from the former Yugoslavia.

SHARE this incredible gallery with your friends on Facebook. Did they know about these Spomeniks?
1. A Spomenik in Kadinijača.

This almost looks like a giant bullet hole in some glass.

2. Niš.

This Spomenik looks like three fists raised in the air.

3. Kruševo.

This one looks a bit like a virus.

4. Kosmaj.

This interesting Spomenik looks like a giant piece from the game Jacks.

5. Tjentište.

This one is by far my favorite. It blends in so naturally with the mountain behind it.

6. Knin.

If I happened to stumble upon this Spomenik on a walk, I would think it was a spaceship or something.

7. Korenica.

This one looks like something out of Game of Thrones. Maybe the Iron Throne?

8. Jasenovac.

There is no doubt that something so novel and futuristic on a hillside would catch someone's attention.

Leave a COMMENT on Facebook letting us know what you think of these unique monuments.

How Cats See The World Compared To Humans

How Cats See The World Compared To Humans

Have you ever thought about seeing the world through your cat's eyes? Judging by the cat people I know, you probably have. So since you've been wondering just how your feline friend sees the world, photographer Nickolay Lamm is here to show you what you see compared to what Fluffy sees.

Through consultations with veterinarians and ophthalmologists, Lamm has a pretty good idea of what cat vision looks like. For starters, cats have a broader visual field than us, and have a visual acuity between 20/100 to 20/200. So what a normal human can see clearly at 100-200 feet, a cat could only see from 20 feet. And as expected, cats see colors differently than we do, so they're bound to see everything differently than we do.

Take a look and see just how differently cats view the world:

The photos on top are what humans see, and a cat's view is on the bottom

Notice those black bars on the top? That's because a cat's visual field is 20 degrees wider than ours

Cats have much better night vision than we do

They can actually see up to eight times better than we do in the dark

But they need to be a lot closer to see things

And a lot of the colors are lost on them

Really, they're missing out on some great views

While cats might not have the best vision at all times, what about other animals?

Check out how other animals see compared to humans:

Lamm consulted with Kerry L. Ketring, DVM, DACVO of All Animal Eye Clinic, Dr. DJ Haeussler of The Animal Eye Institute, and the Ophthalmology group at PennVet.

16 Incredible Photos With Disturbing Backstories

16 Incredible Photos With Disturbing Backstories

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but in some cases, that estimate might be low. Photos have the power to capture not only a moment in time, but the emotion of that moment – and the promise (or threat) of what's to come afterwards. And a good photo doesn't just capture a moment – it tells a story. Even in the age of internet video sharing, photos still have enormous power, partly because they're not videos, so we can fill in any blanks with our imaginations. However, it's the truth behind these photos, not necessarily what we make up to go along with them, that makes them so full of potential. You have to know what's going on in them, and once you do, you won't see them the same way ever again.

CONTENT WARNING: some readers might find the following images disturbing. Discretion is advised.

1. Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels, just after learning the person behind the camera was Jewish.

2. The impact impression on the ground from a man who jumped from a burning Zeppelin in 1916.

3. A B52H about to crash at an airshow in 1994. Although the co-pilot's ejection capsule can be seen, all four crew members were killed in the crash.

4. A Bosnian Muslim pleads for his life after being captured by Serbian paramilitary group Arkan's Tigers, the group responsible for much of the ethnic cleansing during the early days of the war in the former Yugoslavia.

5. A rabbit used to check for leaks at a nerve gas production facility.

6. An aerial view of the Jonestown mass suicide.

7. Australian serial killer Ivan Milat, who murdered seven backpackers in the early 1990s, poses with his gun.

8. A Soviet solider dons protective gear before removing debris from the roof of Chernobyl nuclear power station following the explosion.

9. Nazis force this POW to walk through a minefield – the back of the photo is marked "Mine detection test".

10. A box full of wedding rings collected from victims of the Buchenwald concentration camp.

11. Four friends before and after a car bombing in Beirut, Lebanon. The gold car in the top picture contains the bomb.

12. British police escorting Jewish refugees on their way to being deported to Poland in 1939.

13. Corporal Roy Day Jr., dazed after surviving the massacre of 26 of his fellow American prisoners by playing dead, during the Korean War.

14. An Australian scuba diver accidentally caught Tina Watson's lifeless body on the sea floor after her husband allegedly drowned her on their honeymoon.

15. Polish residents being lined up for execution by Nazi soldiers.

16. A prisoner awaits execution by cannon in Iran in the 1890s.
