I love baking; I find it therapeutic. But when I have my wonderful creation in the oven and I stop to look around me, it always looks like a tornado came through the kitchen: bowls caked with batter, flour everywhere, and a pile of dishes just waiting for me to fight with in a mountain of suds. While I usually don't mind the clean up too much, having recipes that don't require my fingers to prune in a sink of soapy bubbles in the aftermath is always a plus. This cake is moist, chocolatey, and doesn't sit heavy in your stomach. It's also vegan, which means that you can take it to any kind of potluck and know that it can be enjoyed by almost anyone. It's the perfect dessert, and the best part is that it's all made in the same pan it's baked in, which means less clean up for you. Because Diply is all about delicious and easy recipes that give you the most flavor for the least amount of work.
What you'll need:
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 cup white sugar
- 3 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- 5 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
- powdered sugar (optional)
The method:
Grab your round cake pan. Take the first five ingredients, put them directly into the pan and mix well to combine. Make three wells in the mixture. Add vanilla, oil, and vinegar into each of these wells. Pour your water over the entire mixture. Mix it until smooth. Bake in an oven set at 350 for 30 minutes. It's going to smell amazing. Once the cake cools a bit, you can dust it with powdered sugar, if you want. I mean...you don't HAVE to...but it's pretty sugar, so I don't see why you would want to skip this step. Enjoy your chocolatey cake, knowing perfectly well that the cleanup is going to be a synch.
