Here's What 12 'Home Alone' Stars Look Like Now

SHARE
When this holiday smash hit came out in 1990, there were a lot of reasons it delighted kids around the world. At the time, it appealed to our desire for independence, since Kevin was smart enough to get along pretty well before the Wet Bandits finally closed in. Plus, we were just impressed by the complex and cool traps he was able to put together.

But in the 25 years since the magical day we saw Home Alone for the first time, the cast who made it all possible have had a lot of time to change. We've watched some of them grow since then, but a lot of them seemed to disappear completely, leaving us to wonder exactly what happened to them.

Well, there's no need to wonder anymore — because we can tell you exactly what happened since these 12 actors came together to make this holiday classic.

1. Macaulay Culkin

Culkin may not have much of a filmography since his days as a child star, barring his performance in the interesting teen comedy Saved! but that doesn't mean he hasn't been busy.

Between writing a self-described "strange, weird little book" by the name of Junior, turning his New York apartment into an art studio for his "Leisure Inferno" paintings and performing pizza-themed Velvet Underground covers with his band, The Pizza Underground, he never seems to stop diving into new creative pursuits.

He's also revisited his famous Kevin McCallister character in Robot Chickenand on YouTube, so he seems to have a sense of humor about his childhood stardom.

2. Catherine O'Hara

Whether you know her from SCTV, Beetlejuice, or as Kevin's forgetful mother, Kate McCallister, O'Hara has definitely established her presence as an actor and comedian.

And she's been working steadily ever since. She's a permanent fixture of television, but has also received a great deal of acclaim for her work with director Christopher Guest in Best In Show and A Mighty Wind.

3. Daniel Stern

Stern was a delight as goofy criminal Marv Merchants and voiced popular comic strip character Dilbert in the short-lived but interesting animated series. Since then, he's appeared in Drew Barrymore's celebrated film Whip It and took on the mantle of Ralphie's Old Man in the sequel to A Christmas Story.

4. Joe Pesci

After shedding the tough-guy image he earned in Goodfellas a little to play the bumbling criminal Harry Lime, Pesci would find further success in comedy with My Cousin Vinnie. He retired from acting in the late '90s, but returned to be in Robert De Niro's The Good Shepherd.

He was supposed to appear in an upcoming biopic about the infamous mobster John Gotti, but ended up suing producer Marc Fiore after he didn't receive the $3 million he was promised despite the film requiring Pesci to gain weight.

5. Devin Ratray

Known for playing Kevin's antagonistic older brother, Buzz, Ratray has made a series of appearances on TV shows like Law and Order, The Good Wife and Supernatural in the years since.

He also made a memorable appearance in the wonderful Nebraska and starred in a peculiar documentary where he attempted to romance former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

6. Kieran Culkin

This real-life brother of Macaulay played his bed-wetting cousin, Fuller, in both Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York. Of the two brothers, Kieran's had the more eclectic acting career, ranging from character-driven dramas like The Cider House Rules and Igby Goes Down to a very funny role as Scott Pilgrim's wisecracking roommate Wallace in Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.

He also made a recent impression as Rye Gerhardt in the acclaimed Fargo TV series.

7. John Heard

Though he is largely remembered for his work in the '80s and '90s, particularly as Kevin's father Peter McCallister, Heard has remained a prolific film and television actor in the 25 years since.

In that time, he's scored roles in Pollock, The Sopranos and Prison Break, but gained recent attention for his part in the joke-thriller Sharknado.

8. John Candy

Another SCTV alum, John Candy frequently collaborated with Home Alone writer John Hughes, having previously worked with him in Uncle Buck and Planes, Trains and Automobiles. In it, he played a friendly polka musician who gave Kevin's mother a ride back to Chicago to reunite with her son. He would go on to appear in Oliver Stone's JFK and star in the charming bobsledding film Cool Runnings.

Sadly, the beloved comedic actor met his end due to a sudden heart attack right after filming the unfortunately sub-par Wagons East in 1994, only four years after Home Alone.

9. Gerry Bamman

Most known for playing Kevin's grumpy uncle Frank, Bamman would go on to play various authoritative figures in TV shows like Law and Order and The Good Wife and would also appear in Runaway Jury.

10. Roberts Blossom

By the time Blossom played the frightening but ultimately kind-hearted Old Man Marley, he had already had a distinguished film career, appearing in such films as Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Escape From Alcatraz.

By the end of the '90s, Blossom retired from acting and became an accomplished poet before dying in 2011. His life's work was the subject of the documentary Full Blossom: The Life of Poet/Actor Roberts Blossom.

11. Ralph Foody

Foody had a very amusing turn as the trigger-happy Johnny in Home Alone's movie within a movie, Angels With Filthy Souls. He had previously appeared in Blues Brothers, Above the Law, and Betrayed, but his last performance saw him reprise the role of Johnny in Home Alone's sequel.

12. Hillary Wolf

Wolf played Kevin's sister Megan in the first two Home Alone movies, but soon retired from acting to focus on judo. It seemed to be a good move, since her judo mastery took her to the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympic Games.
