The Internet Can't Stop Looking At This Wide-Eyed Police Sketch

SHARE
When a criminal's on the loose, police will need to use every option at their disposal if they ever hope to catch them. Depending on how many clues are on hand, some of these tools seem like desperate long-shots but you never know how chance will intervene to bring the offender to justice.

One of the more famous techniques is for police to employ a sketch artist to give the public some idea of what the fugitive looks like. Of course, the quality of sketch depends on how well eyewitnesses can describe the culprit and how clearly they saw them. Considering how notoriously unreliable eyewitness reports are, the resulting sketch can easily become a last-ditch shot in the dark.

Still, when they work they can work very well. Lois Gibson's sketches are credited with solving over 1,000 crimes, which netted her the Guinness World Record for the most successful sketch artist.

Plus it's helpful if the fugitive has a very distinguishing feature that stands out in each witness's mind. Fortunately for police, today's wanted criminal should have no trouble being picked out of a lineup.

The suspect is terrorizing apartment complexes in Citrus Heights, California

Police have linked him to a January sexual assault case and he's been menacing several other women in the meantime.

Some have reported him peering through apartment windows.

The suspect is targeting women, but isn't showing any other patterns in who he's after.

Others have noticed him stalking them after leaving their apartments.

Since some of the targeted complexes aren't very well-lit, residents are worried he'll catch them unawares.

With few leads to go on, police are asking the public for help.

The suspect's sketch is online and it apparently matched every witness's description of him.

And there's one feature they recognized immediately.

The suspect has large, unnerving eyes.

As one resident put it, "they say looking into the eyes is looking into the soul of a person, and those eyes are way too scary for me."

Witnesses also noted the suspect wore a hoodie during most of the acts.

He's described as aging from 25 to 30 years old with a height ranging from 5'11" to 6'1". He's also clean-shaven with a slender build.

As long as the suspect is at large, residents are on the alert.

Yet, not everyone's taking the matter as seriously as they are.

When the sketch hit social media, users were quick to make fun of it.

The suspect's large eyes reminded them of a lot of weird characters.

One Facebook user noticed the suspect is the spitting image of this anime character.

Between the hoodie and the big eyes, he only needs the green skin and the tail to be a perfect match to Melereon from Hunter X Hunter.

Others dusted off some Tim Burton classics for their comparisons.

One person went with the man with the shrunken head from Beetlejuice.

Someone else thinks she may have a fix on the suspect's family tree.

Perhaps Large Marge sent him after all.

Still, I don't think anything's going to top this comment.

So I'm just going to let it speak for itself.
