SHARE
Each year, roughly 650,000 people go through chemotherapy to combat cancer. Most people are well aware that chemo can cause significant hair loss, something that cancer patients often cover up with hats or wigs. A salon in Bothell, Washington called Sarahenna is doing something incredible for cancer patients who have suffered from hair loss. They are giving them artistic henna crowns! They are truly making cancer patients feel beautiful again.

Sarahenna artist Sarah Walters loves being able to touch the lives of cancer patients with her stunning henna crowns. Here she is pictured at the salon.

Let's take a closer look at some of the crowns she has given to those going through chemo.

Stunning! The intricacies of one of Sarah's crowns make them more beautiful than any hat or head of hair.

Cynthia Q. wrote on the Sarahenna website, “I just wanted to thank you again for the gift of the beautiful henna crown. I get compliments daily. People have said I look beautiful. It has been so uplifting! My oncologist and the cancer center loved it.”

Here is one of the crowns in progress.

You can clearly see the level of care that Sarah puts into each piece.

The work is personal for Sarah, whose stepfather died from cancer.

"He was only alive for five months to the day after his diagnosis, and I felt very helpless during that time," she explained in an interview. "The fact that I can use my art to be helpful in some way,  it's important to me to be able to give in that way," she added.

You have to see the rest of these...

The crowns can vary quite a bit in color. Here is a light brown/beige design.

Henna dye is temporary, as it is made primarily from plant extracts. This means that patients can get any number of different designs on repeated visits.

Here the dye is slightly raised from the skin, making for an interesting texture.

The symmetry is incredible!

Chris V. wrote on the website, saying that “The henna crown was so beautiful. And still is!! ... I also think it is wonderful that you offer the henna crown for free to cancer patients. It is such a positive memory during a time that can be filled with scary stressful ones.”
