She was on every magazine's best dressed list for her stunning gown on the red carpet. 

And she also became the most popular gif on the internet. 

Nicole was clapping rather differently than the other celebs at the awards ceremony. And now we know why. 

During a radio interview, Nicole was happy to finally explain her clapping technique that went viral. 

It was the hosts who asked her if she was clapping that way to protect her jewelry. 

Nicole confirmed that she was trying not to damage the expensive ring she was wearing. 

So she came up with the now very famous clap. 

“Yes, I’m so glad you clarified that because it was really awkward! I was like, ‘Gosh, I want to clap, I don’t want to not be clapping,’ which would be worse, right? ‘Why isn’t Nicole clapping?’”

“So therefore I’m clapping, but it was really difficult because I had a huge ring on that was not my own, so it was absolutely gorgeous, and I was terrified of damaging it.”

And just like that, 2017's biggest mystery was solved.
