1. It's hard to peg just when Gothamtakes place. The feel is 1970s, but the technology is 1990s-2010s... and the characters dress like it's the 1950s.
The appeal of Gotham, I suppose!
2. During one of his stunts, Ben McKenzie (who plays Gordon) crashed into a concrete pillar and split his head open. He posted the whole thing to Instagram looking quite pleased!
3. To keep his limp consistent, Robin Lord Taylor (who plays Penguin) places a bottle cap in his right shoe, making him just uncomfortable enough to walk with a limp.
It's an old Hollywood trick that's been used for decades!
4. In Wayne manor, there's a bust of William Shakespeare – the same bust that was used to open the secret passageway to the Batcave in the 1960s TV show.
Holy tie-in, Batman!
5. Jada Pinkett-Smith wanted the role of Fish Mooney so badly that she brought a shirtless man on a leash to her audition.
He also had the word LIAR written on his head with lipstick. Talk about getting into character!
6. Ben McKenzie and Morena Baccarin play a couple on the show – and they're dating in real life!
They actually have a child together! Cute!
7. This is the first time Jim Gordon has been clean-shaven. The show runner said that this version of Gordon wasn't old enough or wise enough to earn the 'stache yet.
Can Ben McKenzie even grow a mustache?
8. Instead of revealing one character as The Joker, the show's going to tease him in various characters, revealing his traits and mannerisms little by little and keeping us guessing.
I wonder who will actually play The Joker?!
9. Penguins suits are all made by tailor Martin Greenfield, who also did a lot of work for the U.S. Presidents.
Lucky Penguin!
10. Robin Lord Taylor is naturally blonde and dyes his hair black every two weeks.
Apparently his hair seems to float about his head when his roots start to grow in!
11. The show got in a lot of trouble in the first season. Instead of hiring an African-American stuntwoman, they painted a white stuntwoman in blackface.
Warner Brother's released a statement saying "A mistake was made this week in casting a stuntwoman for a guest star in a particular scene on the show. The situation has been rectified, and we regret the error." Uh, yeah. No kidding...
12. The character of Fish Mooney doesn't exist in the comics. She was created for the series.
I'm sure she'll make an appearance somewhere in the comics now, though. She's too good of a character!
13. Carol Kane, who plays Oswald Cobblepot's mother, worked with Danny DeVito, who played the Penguin in Batman Returns.
She's worked with two Penguins!
14. Penguin's father is played by Paul Reubens, who played the same role in Batman Returns.
15. In the episode with Victor Fries, he utters the phrase "I'll be back." The same phrase Arnold Schwarzenegger says in Terminator 2.
Arnold also played Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin, but I doubt the show is going to make as many ice puns...
