But there's always a risk: a risk that it won't go as planned. No one will like it. No one will comment. Or worse...they will. And it'll turn into your worst nightmare. What do you do? How do you respond? Do you even respond?
It's a common problem.
But what happens when the computer is removed? When all you're doing is living your life and an outright negative comment comes at you?
Let's look at this through the lens of a mom — a mom who was body-shamed just days after giving birth.
This is Giovanna Fletcher. She's a new mom and the wife of McFly band member Tom Fletcher.
Eleven days after giving birth, she was actually pointed at by a near stranger who said this...
"...Oh look, Mummy's still got her tummy." Fletcher took to her social media profile to vent. She posted this picture and wrote:
"This was 11 days after giving birth. I was so shocked I laughed. But the words have stuck with me. Obviously. It wasn't left there either as there was another comment about my face 'slimming down..."
Then, something awesome happened. Instead of continuing to vent, she turned it around, effectively standing up for every mother who's ever been body-shamed post-birth. She's quickly become an inspiration to new moms everywhere: they LOVE her post. Here's what she said:
"...More than anything, I was baffled over the stranger's need to share her thoughts... Yes, I still have a bump. But that bump kept my little baby boy safe for a whole nine months. That bump has filled my world with even more love and light than I knew possible. That bump is a miracle worker... My bump will slowly go over time, but I'll never stop being thankful to it and my body for everything it's given me. #spreadlove ❤️ xx."
