The 8 Biggest Michael Phelps Scandals That Changed His Life

The Olympics are upon us and athletes from around the damn globe are flocking to Rio De Janeiro for a multi-million dollar event.

There has been widespread news about city officials making sure that none of the poorer parts of the city are seen by tourists. The lake where water events is taking place would have been deemed unsafe if they were in the U.S.

But athletes are braving it to represent their countries proudly. And one of those is one of the greatest athletes in the world: Michael Phelps. Phelps is an American swimmer who has done some pretty CRAZY stuff and here are some of those things.

Michael Phelps, for those of you who've been living in a Mormon compound for 12 years, is an American competitive swimmer who is the MOST decorated Olympian in history.

At least that's what I read on Wikipedia.

In three Olympiads, he's won 22 medals! 22 medals and he's only 31 years old.

Meanwhile, I eat chicken soup in a Styrofoam cup and am writing this in a dark room in my underpants.

For the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, he's the United States' flag bearer and that decision been put under scrutiny...

Especially for all the scandals that have been swimming around Phelps.

1. Let's start with the fact that in 2004, he was arrested for drunk driving the FIRST TIME when he was only 19. 

He sped past a stop sign and was sentenced to 18 months probation and paid $55 in court fees and $250 in fines.

The court also ordered him to give speeches to kids about the dangers of alcohol and drugs. So that's the end of that, right? NOPE.

2. In 2009, the decorated swimmer had tried to buy photos taken of him smoking weed the year before. He was suspended from swimming for three months because weed is the devil's plant.

I mean, who wouldn't try and save their reputation? Obviously, he's struggled in his attempts.

PS He also lost one his major sponsorship deals with Kellogg cereal company.

3. Surprise, surprise, Phelps skirted any jail time for his DUI arrest in 2014. He just lost his licence for 90 days and had to use chauffeurs.

He was also ordered to 18 months probation. Take note, kids.

This was the moment when Phelps said he started down a further downward spiral and admitted he "didn't want to see another day...."

So we're just getting started unfortunately...

4. After the second time he was caught driving drunk, he checked himself into a rehab facility for treatment.

"I was in a really dark place... not wanting to be alive anymore… I look back now... I lived in a bubble for a long time." 

"It's probably the most afraid I've ever felt in my life."

He said it was a blur in that it was just, "Hug-hug, kiss-kiss, turn in my phone and go to my room."

5. After he was arrested he was consoled by then-girlfriend and intersex model Taylor Lianne Chandler who he met on Tinder.

She claims they'd have sex at his Baltimore home. They also seem to have engaged in steamy text message sessions, which Radar Online exclusively obtained.

The cougar lover who was born with male genitalia was apparently his rock and when the going got tough she was there.

6. Plus-sized Dominatrix Kim Petro claims she gave the Olympic gold medalist a "golden shower" for $900.

In case you didn't know, that's when someone wants another person to pee on them. Exactly the thing we try to avoid in MOST situations.

7. Adding to that is the fact that Phelps allegedly wore women's underwear and touched himself afterward.

8. Then there's the fighting and arguments that Phelps has had with his girlfriend, Miss California USA, Nicole Johnson, now fiancée.

Who have been on-and-off since 2009 but who had a son together in 2016.
