What's your favorite movie from the 1980s? Let us know in the comments!
1. The Director — Judd Apatow
John Hughes, the director of The Breakfast Club, also oversaw films like Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and Home Alone. The only modern day director with those types of credits to his name is Judd Apatow, who directed or produced films like Superbad, Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and Train Wreck.
2. The Beauty — Emma Stone
Molly Ringwald was one of the biggest stars of the 1980s. Also known for titles like Pretty and Pink and Sixteen Candles. Emma Stone is a fellow redhead and has enjoyed similar success in modern Hollywood from playing a high school student in Easy Ato an Oscar-worthy performance in La La Land.
3. The Jock — Zac Efron
Zac Efron would be ideal for the role of "the jock" in The Breakfast Club. Not only does he have similar looks to Emilio Estevez, who played the role in the original film, he also played a convincing athlete in the High School Musical role that launched his career.
4. Cell Phones Would Need To Be Confiscated
If The Breakfast Club were made today, the students might not have even spoken to each other. That's because each member of the Brat Pack would probably have a cell phone! Instead of breaking down social barriers and forming lifelong bonds, they would use their time in detention on Instagram. So in the modern day version of the script, the teacher confiscates everyone's cell phone at the start of the day.
The big question is who would play the teacher? Hmmm..... keep going to find out!
Remember that epic song before the end credits, "Don't You (Forget About Me)"? Well, we've got the 2017 version of that song coming up!
9. The Brain — Cole Sprouse
Maybe his twin brother could also get a role?
10. The Janitor — William H. Macy
The janitor gives a creepy speech in the movie, telling the students that he listens to their conversations and reads their letters. For some reason, I think of William H. Macy giving this speech. Sorry, William.
11. There Would Be No Essay
All of the students are instructed to write a 1,000-word essay during their time in detention, but in 2017 that would require all of the students bringing their laptops, which would only give them access to the Internet. That's why I'm thinking all of the kids would have to perform an oral presentation at the end of the day to show the professor what they learned.
12. Song for the End Credits - "Closer" by The Chainsmokers
Even if you haven't seen The Breakfast Club, you probably know the scene right before the credits as Judd Nelson walks triumphantly across the football field. The song playing is "Don't You (Forget About Me)" by Simple Minds.
