While we continually hear about Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump in the news, we haven't heard anything about the first major oil spill of 2016. Over 90,000 gallons of oil — enough to cover the island of Manhattan — has been spilled in the Gulf of Mexico and you had no idea.

The spill, which could affect marine wildlife, occurred 90 miles off the coast of Louisiana.

Currently, the oil is slowly spreading into an area that may be home to marine life such as dolphins and whales. The company responsible for the spill, Dutch Royal Shell, says that the spill is being contained and that no wildlife has been affected. Check out this video that provides more detail and creepy shots of the spill.

One remarkable thing is that the company didn't even know about the spill until a helicopter operator saw it. What do you think?
