Poor Water Vendor Known For His Flower Hats Inspires Kids By Becoming A Teacher

SHARE
All over the world, people struggle to pull themselves up out of poverty and achieve their dreams. It's hard and can often feel impossible. That's why stories like that of Jaykummer "Dodoy" Teberio are so important. Seeing others succeed can be just the push someone else needs to not give up.

Dodoy is 21 years old and sells bottled water in Cebu City, Philippines. He's known for his crazy style that includes a flowered hat and red lipstick.

He became a vendor to help his family and earns 500 Philippino Pesos (about $10 USD) per day. He lives in a small shanty with his parents, nieces, and nephews.

But Dodoy's dream is to become a teacher, and alongside his day job, he's been attending college. He just completed his practicum at Mabolo National High School.

The students in the class he helped teach found his story inspiring!

And now he's done it! Next week Dodoy will graduate from the University of Cebu. His degree is a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education.

He majored in Music, the Arts, Physical Education, and Health. Holy cow!

Dodoy's story has done so much to inspire those around him that last month he was the recipient of the Mayor's Special Award on Cebu City's Charter Day!

He said, "I'm very happy with the award because this is part of my hard work to inspire the others."

SHAREDodoy's amazing story with everyone you know!
