This weekend is very exciting for Princess Diana fans.
Diana: Her Fashion Story is opening at Kensington Palace, the princess's former residence.
The exhibit will have Diana's most iconic outfits on display for the public.
The exhibit will showcase 25 of Diana’s most iconic outfits and explain some of the reasoning behind her fashion choices.
The show's curator Eleri Lynn opened up about the specific fashion choices Diana made and the reason why she stopped wearing gloves at public events.
It's protocol for women in the royal family to wear gloves in public. The queen wears gloves while shaking people's hands at events.
Eleri said that Diana stopped wearing gloves so she could be in direct contact with people when she shook their hands.
Eleri said she wanted to "convey approachability and warmth" and she did that by letting go of that practice of wearing gloves.
“She abandoned the royal protocol of wearing gloves because she liked to hold hands when visiting people or shake hands and have direct contact." No wonder she earned the title The People's Princess!
It didn't just stop at the gloves. “When she was visiting hospitals for example she would wear cheerful clothes that would convey warmth and often chunky jewelry so that children could come and play with them,” Eleri said.
Supposedly, she also retired wearing hats because she once said, "You can't cuddle a child in a hat."
The great thing about the exhibition is that you can see how Diana's style changed over the years. Eleri said that the exhibition proudly displays how Diana came into her own when it came to style. She became a "fantastically glamorous, self-confident stylish woman."
