8 Incredible Gingerbread Houses That Look Too Good To Eat

'Tis the season for gingerbread houses, and if you're anything like me, the results of your labor are a little lopsided and the decorations act more as a glue to hold it up than ornaments to make it pretty. And by the time Christmas Day rolls around, most of the candy has been eaten off of the house and yet no one is willing to admit they're the ones doing it — it's never me, I swear...

But some people are so talented at building gingerbread houses that I don't think anyone would feel comfortable sneaking that gumdrop from the roof. These are far too beautiful to eat!

1. St Basil's Cathedral, Moscow

Made by the chef at the Ritz Carlton in Moscow, this version of the iconic cathedral took nearly three months to build and stands 6.5 feet high.

2. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

This Hogwarts not only looks amazing, but it lights up!

3. Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

This is what happens when you have architects make gingerbread houses. The museum is made of gingerbread, icing, cotton candy, liquorice, sugar, and candy wrappers.

4. The classic, but taken to the next level

5. The White House

It's a yearly tradition to have a gingerbread White House made. I particularly like this impressive, white chocolate-covered creation that weighs over 400lbs from 2009, which includes a peak inside. 

6. Carl's house from Up!

This Pixar-inspired house was for an auction benefitting the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Douglas County. It took over three weeks to make, but the detail is incredible. There's even a little Carl made of modelling chocolate!

7. On display at Disney World, Orlando

This beautiful house is full of detail and the size of a children's playhouse.

8. Go a full two storeys!

Located in the lobby of San Francisco's Fairmont Hotel, this house is 22 feet high and 12.5 feet wide. It took 5,500 pieces of gingerbread, 850 pounds of royal icing, 425 pounds of candy, and 8 gallons of chocolate. Holy cow!
