Snape is such a controversial character within the Harry Potter fandom! Did you know that Snape is one of J.K. Rowling's favorite characters?
Favorite? That title should go to Luna Lovegood!
It's hard to like him after he was so mean throughout the series. But then again, it's hard NOT to like him when you find out all that he sacrificed to protect Harry!
"After all this time?" "Always." I still get choked up thinking about those words!
Even the biggest Potterheads who have read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire tons of times may have missed this mini reveal about Snape's character!
I know I did! And I've read that book at least six times. And I think it's actually time for me to reread it again!
Get ready for your mind to be blown by this one tiny detail that J.K. sneakily added in!
Let's be real, the only thing I really wanted from Snape as a character was for him wash his hair. "Greasy hair, don't care" must be Snape's motto.
Class, turn to page 679 in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire!
Sassy Snape is always the best Snape.
In Goblet of Fire, Harry finds himself alone in a room with the Death Eater-turned-Hogwarts-professor, Barty Crouch Jr. He's supposedly dead but at the time was disguised as Mad-Eye Moody!
In the scene, Crouch is seconds away from murdering Harry when all of a sudden Dumbledore, Snape and McGonagall rush into the room to save the day. You know, as usual.
In the book (page 679!!), J.K. mentions Mad-Eye's Foe-Glass. It's the magical looking glass that shows the faces of your enemies only when they're close enough to cause you harm.
In the book, it says: "Harry, still staring at the place where Moody's face had been, saw Albus Dumbledore, Professor Snape, and Professor McGonagall looking back at him out of the Foe-Glass."
GET IT?! GET IT?!
So... what does that passage mean? It means that Harry saw Snape in the Foe-Glass because he really was an enemy of Barty Crouch Jr. who is a Death Eater!
If Snape really were a Death Eater and working closely with Voldemort, he wouldn't have shown up in the Foe-Glass!
That means he was a good guy all along! He was always playing the role of a double agent and J.K. actually told us this WAY before the big reveal in Deathly Hallows!
MIND BLOWN.
If only we had caught on to this tiny detail sooner! COMMENT and tell us what you think of Snape!
