15 Secrets About Sarah Hyland

Sarah Hyland plays one of our favorite characters on the hit show Modern Family. She's 25 years old, but completely admits that she has a baby face, although it's not such a bad thing! It's what got her the role of 15-year-old Haley Dunphy when she was already an adult. She's been involved in a few other projects that we had no idea about, and even has some hidden talents that surprised us all. Here are 15 very important things you need to know about Sarah to reallyget to know her.

1. She was born into a family of actors. Her parents are Melissa Canaday and Edward James Hyland. Her brother, Ian, is also an actor. 

2. She attended the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan and even had Taylor Momsen as a classmate. 

3. She began acting at the age of four and appeared as Molly in the television remake of Annie. 

4. She almost didn't land the role in Modern Family because the directors hadn't seen what she looked like, but assumed she was too old to play the part.

Obviously that all changed when she saw her headshot. 

5. Initially, she didn't want to get her hopes up that the show would do well, so she had very low expectations for it. Good thing she was proven wrong! 

6. She's very much a homebody and doesn't enjoy partying with other younger celebs. She's all about staying in at the end of the day and avoiding Hollywood drama.

7. She says she's always mistaken for Mila Kunis. Apparently, Mila told Sarah that she gets mistaken for her too! 

8. She has some crazy singing talent. Besides being an avid karaoke fan, she recently collaborated with Boyce Avenue to cover The Chainsmokers' "Closer."

9. Sarah was once in a long-term relationship with Matt Prokop who she eventually got a restraining order against. He was reportedly very abusive towards her, but she's come out of the relationship stronger than ever and has moved on.

10. Since 2015, she's been dating Dominic Sherwood. Dominic appeared in Taylor Swift's "Style" music video – they're all actually really good friends.

11. Both of Sarah's boyfriends, Matt and Dominic, have made appearances on ModernFamily, both playing Alex's love interest. 

12. As a young child, Sarah was diagnosed with kidney dysplasia. Her father donated his kidney to her in 2012.

This condition actually caused a lot of stress and interruption in her work life.

13. Before the transplant, Sarah was often exhausted and in a lot of pain. That's why her character, Haley, is always sitting down or leaning on the counter in her scenes. She said that any time she had to climb the stairs was her workout for the day. 

14. Sarah has said that she loves getting to watch the "kids" on Modern Family grow up, have their first dates and first kisses. She's still really close to all of them even after these years.
