We've probably all been guilty of at least a few of the mistakes on this list, but it's not too late to correct them! So keep on scrolling if you're ready to fess up to your beauty faux pas and learn how to stop making them.
1. Sleeping With Makeup On
We've all done this after a late night out or particularly trying day, but sleeping with makeup on is a sure way to cause breakouts. Keep some makeup removing wipes beside your bed and go to sleep with a fresh face!
2. Not Applying A Base Coat
Especially when it comes to reds and dark polishes, skipping a base coat will cause staining and damage to your nails.
3. Applying Foundation Incorrectly
Although it seems logical to apply under-eye foundation in a crescent-like shape, those dark circles will actually be less visible if you apply foundation in a triangle.
4. Intense Lip Lining
Super visible lip liner is one beauty trend that's better left in the past. If you do choose to line your lips, make sure you blend them extremely well.
5. Testing Foundation On Your Arms
Why is it that we always test out makeup swatches on our arms? Your hands and arms are usually a very different color than your face, so when it comes to foundation, it's best to test it on your jawline or neck.
6. Not Cleaning Your Brushes
Makeup brushes are coming into constant contact with your face, which means constant contact with germs. It's extremely important to clean your brushes at least once a month to prevent breakouts, blemishes, and rashes.
7. Using Waterproof Mascara Daily
Waterproof mascara is great for the pool, beach, or those super-humid days. But wearing it every day can severely dry out your lashes and its tough formula can even cause you to lose them!
8. Applying All-Over Foundation
Resist the urge to apply foundation to your entire face. Keep your foundation limited to problem areas instead to avoid looking like a cake face.
9. Applying All-Over Bronzer
For very similar reasons as in #8, bronzer will look better when you reserve it for your cheekbones, forehead, and the brim of your nose.
10. Not Using Primer
I cannot stress enough the importance of primer. Applying a primer to your eyelids pre-shadow will ensure that your makeup stays put.
11. Not Using Setting Spray
Setting spray is one of the best beauty inventions ever. Your face is your masterpiece, so keep it fresh and smudge-free by spritzing yourself with a setting spray after your makeup application!
12. Curling Your Lashes With Mascara
You've probably read beauty tips that say curling your lashes after mascara application will give them a stronger curl. But I urge you not to! Curling your lashes while wearing mascara can unpleasantly dent them and even pull them out when they get stuck to the wand.
