Treats To DIY With The Kids This Summer

Rejoice! Summer is around the corner. Shorts, BBQs, and daily treats in full effect! Wait, did you forget about your kids? They'll also want treats every day. Daily ice cream isn't the best idea, so what options do you have? 

Well lucky for you, we've complied simple ways to treat your kids all summer long. Your kids can even give you a hand in the kitchen and help make these treats. 

Share with someone who's looking forward to summer. 

1. Juicy Watermelon Slush

Blend pieces of watermelon with some lime juice and a little coconut sugar. Stash the mix in your freezer. Periodically, run a fork over it to create pink ice crystals. 

2. Fruit Pops

Using a metal cookie cutter, cut sliced fruit into fun shapes. Slide a Popsicle stick into one end. Your kids will love this new way to eat fruits!

3. Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Apples

Cut slices of an apple and put them on a plate. Melt chocolate and coconut oil in a bowl in the microwave. In a separate bowl melt peanut butter. Drizzle the chocolate and peanut butter on the apples. Sprinkle unsweetened coconut flakes to top off the treat!

4. Cherry Vanilla Snow Cone 

Mix 1 cup of pitted cherries, 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of water and 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract into a pot. Let the mixture boil. After the mixture has thickened a bit, use a strainer to pour the liquid into a container. Once cooled, pour into squeeze bottle, and spread over shaved ice. 

5. Strawberry Blueberry Frozen Yogurt Bark

Put a generous amount of non-fat yogurt onto parchment paper. Pile on your favorite fruit toppings. Then, carefully put the parchment paper into your freezer overnight. The next day, you can break it up and enjoy this healthy treat with the kids!

6. Nutella And Greek Yogurt Popsicles

Using a Popsicle tray, fill it with 1/3 of Greek yogurt, 1/3 of Nutella and top of with 1/3 Greek yogurt. Pop the tray into your freezer overnight. This tart and sweet treat is ready to enjoy!

7. Frozen Grapes

It doesn't get any easier than this. Rinse fresh grapes, pat down with a paper towel, put them in a Ziplock bag and pop them into the freezer. The crunchy outside mixed with the smooth sorbet inside is so good, your kids will forget it's good for them. 

8. Root Beer Float Popsicles

Grab Dixie Cups and fill 1/3 with ice cream or frozen yogurt and then 1/3 with root beer. Put these cups on a baking tray and pop into the freezer. Wait for about two hours and then pull out the baking tray. Top the last 1/3 with ice cream. Slide in a Popsicle stick and pop into the freezer for another hour. 

9. Peanut Butter Chocolate Banana Soft Serve Ice Cream

Add bananas, cocoa powder, and peanut butter into a food processor. After it's reached ice cream consistency, stir a tablespoon of peanut butter into the mixture to create chunks. Store in the freezer.

10. Chocolate Kiwi Popsicles 

Peel a kiwi and slice it into thick slices. Put them on parchment paper then slowly slide a popsicle stick into each slice and freeze for about 4 hours. Separately melt chocolate into a bowl. Pull out the kiwi slices, dip into the melted chocolate and immediately put it back into the freezer. They'll be ready in an hour! 

11. Blackberries And Cream Popsicles

Put 8 ounces of frozen blackberries, 1 cup of heavy cream, 1/3 cup sugar, and 1/4 cup water into a blender. Next, pour the mixture into a Popsicle tray and freeze overnight. Your kids will love this berry treat!




12. Frozen Chocolate Bananas 

First, cover a baking sheet with nonstick foil. Take two bananas, cut in half and insert a popsicle stick into each half. Put them on the baking sheet and freeze for 15 minutes. Then melt chocolate with some vegetable oil in a cup in the microwave. Roll each banana half in the chocolate, then sprinkle with your favorite toppings. Let it freeze for 30 minutes, and their ready to enjoy!
