15 Things You Had NO Idea About From 'The Secret Life Of The American Teenager'

The Secret Life of the American Teenagerwas such a controversial show! It aired on ABC Family and the show discussed sex, relationships and regular old teenage drama. It. Was. The. Best. It launched the career of Shailene Woodley, who is now one of the biggest celebs on the planet! Um, haven't you seen Divergent or The Fault In Our Stars? She's our new YA action movie queen! Sadly, the show is off the air but let's remember what a great show it was with these secrets!

1. The Secret Life of the American Teenager is a REALLY long name, right? Originally, it was going to be The Sex Life of the American Teenager. Not any shorter but way more to the point!

2. Every episode, the word "sex" is said at least 25 times! I mean, is anyone surprised?!

3. Secret Life is Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson's favorite show in the entire world. The producers asked her to appear on the show and she said yes!

She appeared on the show twice! 

4. Shailene Woodley was diagnosed with Scoliosis when she was 15 so when she started filming Secret Life, she was wearing a brace from her hips to her chest.

After season one, she stopped wearing the brace after her doctors gave her the ok! 

5. The producers FORCED the actors to constantly brush their teeth throughout the day. Any guesses why? It has to do with all those makeout scenes in every episode!

6. Molly Ringwald (Amy's mom) is the one who sings the Secret Life theme song! She released her first album when she was six years old. 

Okay... at six years old, most of us are just coloring and playing outside. NOT recording albums. Good for her!

7. Even though Amy's hair is always straight, Shailene's is naturally curly. It took so long to straighten that Shailene admitted she only washed it every other day!

Ugh, her hair is totes perf!

8. WAY back in the first season, Amy craves a Dairy Shack burger. Does that sound familiar? It's the same fast food restaurant in 7th Heaven!

9. Even though Amy and Grace aren't BFFs on the show, Shailene and Megan Park are besties IRL!

They would hang out in Shailene's trailer ALL the time between scenes. I hope they still hang out now!

10. Shailene and John Schneider (Marshall Bowman) were in a movie together before Secret Life. They were in Felicity: An American Girl Adventure. They played father and daughter. 

Amy and Grace's dad? So weird!

11. Shailene, Megan and Francia Raisa LOVED making crafts. They had an entire trailer dedicated to their homemade projects. 

OMG crafting with the girls from Secret Life? THAT would be the dream.

12. The girls would also sneak off into the hair and makeup trailer after filming and just play with all the makeup! 

I WANT TO HANG OUT WITH ALL OF THEM.

13. The girls were BFFs, but what about the guys? Daren Kagasoff (Ricky Underwood) and Greg Finley (Jack Pappas) always hung out on the weekends. They used to play hoops!

Instead of shirts and skins, I secretly hope it was always skins and skins...

14. When Secret Life was filming, Molly was trying to get pregnant. The writers told her that if she got pregnant, they would write that her character would go to fat camp. Good thing that never happened!

15. Shailene was ~obsessed~ with graduating with her high school class so she begged the principal to send her homework to set. And it paid off because she graduated on time!

High school diploma AND a hit TV show? Shailene's the best!
