For example, take the hydraulic press phenomenon. One day, some profound YouTubers said to themselves, "Hey, we have this hydraulic press and a camera, so what if we filmed all sorts of stuff being crushed and see what happens?" And it turns out, it's infinitely cool to take a minute to see what happens. You can't help wondering what a hydraulic press would do to a bowling ball, for example, or a hockey puck.
In this case, we get to see a can of silly string submitted to massive forces, and it's mesmerizing.
If this were a European art film, we would be the can of silly string, and the hydraulic press would symbolize the government, or censorship, or life, or the surveillance state. We are all being oppressed by life/government/enemies of art, right? What a brilliant metaphor!
Or it's just a can of weird goo being slowly crushed under a hydraulic press.
The amazing thing is how this doesn't go quite as you'd expect. The can doesn't just give up as soon as pressure is applied. Sure, silly string is going to do its silly thing, but the can really hangs in there. You just have to watch this until the end!
