She Made Her Own Gigantic Area Rug By Doing THIS And It Was Beyond Simple! Wow!

Rugs are often the perfect finish to a room. The problem is finding the right rug to fit the space, especially when they come in so many different shapes, sizes, patterns, and colors. That's how most people feel about it, and Stephanie is no exception to this. The difference with Stephanie is that she took matters into her own hands and set out to make her own rug after seeing her friend make one. Stephanie recalled the memory on her blog, A Scoop of Sherbert, by saying, "A few years ago, when I visited my friend Kyrie’s dorm room, I was beyond impressed with her area rug. I remember my initial assumption was that she didn’t spend a ton of money on it because she just wouldn’t have. But I was puzzled because it was seriously the coolest.” Well, Stephanie was right, because she later found out that her friend actually saved up a bunch of pieces from old carpets and created her own.

First, Stephanie gathered all of the carpet pieces that she needed.

She stuck to pieces that were roughly the same pattern and made it so the colors could match each other. Another major factor is having them at the same length (which would save having to cut them). She then laid out the pieces into the pattern she desired.

Instead of using a random type of tape, Stephanie opted for some carpet adhesive.

Carpet tape is a sturdier choice that can be found at many hardware stores. It's also relatively cheap.

Before she used the tape...  

... she made sure to cut it into strips so that they were ready to go.

By following the easy instructions for the tape...

... she peeled the backs and used each of the strips to attach the carpet pieces to one another. She did this by lifting the carpet edge off the ground, placing the tape halfway under, then firmly pressing it onto the tape until it stuck. She then repeated with the next piece of carpet onto the same tape, then did this for every other piece until it was connected.

As you can see, she did a fantastic job of connecting the carpets.

You can hardly tell that they were separate pieces to begin with, so it looks great.

Some of the center carpet pieces had gaps between them, so she had to come up with a quick fix.

She grabbed a pair of scissors (though she suggests using a carpet blade) and cut the pieces to fit perfectly. As a result, the entire carpet was essentially seamless. She also bought shelf liner from the dollar store to create a non-slip bottom. Since it's extremely grippy, it helps keep the carpet in place so it's not sliding around everywhere (although the heavier the carpet, the less likely it is to slide around).

And voila! The finished product looks absolutely amazing, and it can be done for an extremely low price. On her blog, Stephanie said, "There you have it! I am so happy with it. I love how it grounds the room, adding a coziness that was previously lacking. And, of course, I love that the entire project cost under $30!"
