Photographer Captures 46-Foot Wave Moments Before It Crashes Down

SHARE
It was a stormy Christmas in the UK for 2016. On December 23rd, as families prepared for the holiday weekend, they were hit with Storm Barbara, which brought severe winds and even knocked out power to more than 15,000 homes. But nature wasn't done with them, because on Boxing Day they were hit with another storm by the name of Conor.

Photographer Ryan Sandison was out along the northwest coast of Shetland when the storm hit. The Shetland Islands are located northeast of Great Britain and are a part of Scotland.

On Boxing Day, the radar showed Storm Conor ready to pounce.

The purple arrow indicates where Shetland is located.

Sandison was in just the right place to capture his incredible photo.

The 46-foot wave hit the northwest coast of the islands in Eshaness.

Winds were recorded as strong as 94mph in Shetland!

Here's what those cliffs at Eshaness look like on a good day.

It's crazy to think that the waves went higher than those cliffs!

Isn't Mother Nature amazing?
