15 Facts Most People Don't Know About 'Dawson's Creek'

SHARE
Remember when Dawson's Creek premiered and everyone was freaking out about it? It was probably the first teen drama show that seriously talked about problems that all teenagers face! There were always super controversial episodes and storylines (remember the whole Pacey/teacher thing?)  but it was so good because of the characters and the love triangles! It's time to take a trip back to Capeside while listening to the theme song, "I Don't Want to Wait"!

1. Dawson's famous haircut was actually inspired by Brad Pitt's hair in The Devil's Own

But James Van Der Beek pulls it off better than Brad, am I right?!

2. Katie Holmes was still a high school student when she sent in an audition tape for Joey! Her mom was so supportive of her that she acted as Dawson in the tape!

Aww! Her mom is so supportive!

3. James was on the plane on his way to audition in LA and he actually sat beside Adrian Grenier who was ALSO auditioning for Dawson! It worked out for Adrian in the end since he went on star in Entourage!

4. The showrunner, Kevin Williamson, wrote the screenplays for all the Scream movies – so he put a bunch of props from those movies in Dawson's bedroom.

Screamson's Creek? I'd watch it.

5. Dawson's Creek was known for its super frank dialogue about sex. But the producers were told that they couldn't use the word "masturbate" in the pilot.

In the original script, Joey asks Dawson, "How often do you masturbate?" And in the the final version of the episode, she asks, "How often do you walk your dog?" Basically the same question!

6. Katie and Tom Cruise were meant to be from the very beginning – there are SO many references to Tom! Joey and Dawson watch Jerry Maguire together, Pacey watches the movie later and Eve throws a Risky Business–like fundraiser!

Whoa... how crazy is that?!

7. Joey and Pacey forever! Katie and Joshua Jackson dated when they were filming the show. Katie told Us Weekly that Joshua was her first love!

THIS MAKES ME SO EMOTIONAL. I CAN'T DEAL WITH THIS.

8. The episode called "True Love" made history! It was the first episode to air on primetime television that featured two gay men kissing.

9. James said it was tough playing a 15 year old when he was 21 because he had to shave A LOT. He shaved twice a day just to play Dawson!

10. Dawson's crying face has become a meme now and apparently it was never scripted! Dawson was never supposed to cry but James just started tearing up when the cameras were rolling.

11. Joshua used to moon people on set before intense scenes just to make the actors laugh!

12. Michelle Williams was pretty upset that her character died. She really didn't want Jen to die because she was scared they were going to do a reunion show and she wouldn't be able to show up!

But the showrunner said that Jen's death was important because it pushed the characters into adulthood! RIP Jen. Honestly, she was one of my favs!

13. Have you noticed that none of the characters refer to their partners as "Babe," "Honey," "Sweetheart," etc.? It's because the showrunner really hated those terms and always had them use their first names!

14. So... remember when Dawson's dad died because of an ice cream cone?! It's because he really didn't want to be on the show anymore and that made the showrunner angry! So it's death by ice cream cone for him!

What a tragic way to go out. By an ice cream cone?! And what's that actor doing now?!

15. ALL the writers and producers made a bet that everyone was going to choose teams: Team Pacey or Team Dawson. And they were right! The fight started by the time the second episode aired!

Let's settle this once and for all! COMMENT and tell us if you're on #TeamPacey or #TeamDawson!

The debate of the century, am I right?
