Meet Shane Brinkley.
She is a 25-year-old man with a plan. A plan that he had to wait eight months before putting into action.
Shane was dating Lauren French.
The couple had been together since December 3rd, 2014.
In March of this year, just days before her 22nd birthday, Lauren realized that she was pregnant.
The hairdresser-in-training took a job at Hotpoint Appliances to be able to provide for her young family.
But Shane realized that he wanted to be the one to provide for the family — forever.
He decided to propose to Lauren, but it couldn't be just any proposal. Lauren deserved the best, "I wanted to make the proposal different," he said, and so he began to plan.
It was eight months in the making.
"It was really difficult to keep secret, only Lauren’s mum and my best mate knew I was going to do it," said Shane. But it was going to be perfect.
The couple spent the months planning for the upcoming birth of their baby.
They were having a little girl. Unbeknownst to Lauren, Shane was planning something else as well.
Early in October, Lauren went into labor.
Her midwife, Janine, was there to help her through everything — but she was also helping Shane. Janine was going to operate the video camera and capture the proposal for them.
On October 6th, 2016, Nevaeh Brinkley was born.
She was healthy, 7lb 13oz, and beautiful. And she was about to help her father ask the biggest question of his life.
Shane couldn't wait any longer.
Lauren had just given birth when Shane took Nevaeh and dressed her in a onesie he'd had made especially for that day.
It took Lauren a minute to process once Shane handed Nevaeh back to her.
The words, "Mummy, will you marry my daddy?" were written across the baby's chest. Lauren welled up with tears and cried out, "of course" from her hospital bed.
Since then, the family has been settling into life back home.
Having Nevaeh has made their family complete. Lauren is loving being a new mom and a fiancée, "We haven’t yet had a chance to plan for the wedding, but would like it to be in 2018. We are hoping to have the chance to sit down and discuss it properly very soon, in between naps!"
