When people have babies, the whole family gets excited. When people have twins, even strangers get excited. As aware as we all are that twins happen, people still become fixated and rattle off a long list of questions to anyone toting kids created in the same womb at the same time. Mothers and father of twins have always said how exhausting the interrogation is with a smile. This mother did something about it, and you might feel like doing it too. For everything.
The Girls
Annie Picken, also known as Uncanny Annie, is a blogger, mother of three, and wife of Liam Picken, an Australian rules footballer. Her blog features her family front and center, showing off all the cool things she does with the kids when Daddy's off playing ball. Her About page features this self-description: "Writer • Animal lover • Equality Supporter • Outspoken • Creator of 3 lives (incl twins born 13 weeks prem) • Household CEO."
Good Mom = Happy Kids
Summer time, bath time, tummy time: they all make it into this page, and it's adorable. The Pickens have twin girls, which gets a lot of attention and gets everybody talking. After a while, however, all that talking starts to get to be a bit much.
It's not that people are saying things that aren't nice, not at all. It's more that they're saying the same things, asking the same questions and Annie is giving the same answers...constantly. Fed up, Annie taped this message to the kids' stroller...
Wish I Could Tape Something Like This To My Forehead
The note Annie taped to the front of the girls' stroller is about as direct as you can get (and just think of all the breath everyone can save now!).
"Yes, they are mine. Yes, they are twins. Yes, both girls. No, not identical. Yes, I know they look alike though. Yes, I'm sure they aren't identical. Conceived by [making love]. Born via C-section. You have twins in your family? 'Great.' They don't run in my family...until now. Yes, my hands are full (sometimes with two glasses of wine just to get through). Yes, triplets would be harder."
This Post Accompanied The Picture
This says it all. Sometimes you have to laugh at yourself and the exhausting things you'd rather not do but kinda have to because social blah blah blah. In any event, it's refreshing to see someone "keeping it real" in a big way. The post got a lot of attention and went viral. Clearly, there are other moms out there who don't care to repeat themselves until their babies are in college.
