Iceland's President Says He'd Ban Pineapple On Pizza, Internet Forces Him To Explain Himself

Some debates just never seem to be fully resolved – hanging toilet paper underhand or overhand, for example. In my house, that particular debate ended in a graceless compromise, with a roll not hung at all but simply left on the counter for the user to do with as he or she pleases. But pineapple on pizza? Please. I will take a hit of the tropics every time, and don't try to tell me that's wrong. I'm looking at you, President of Iceland.

Guoni Johannesson, president of geothermal energy powerhouse Iceland, found himself in hot water with the Internet after saying he would ban pineapple on pizza if he had the power.

While taking questions at a high school assembly, Guoni – seen here with a book with a duck that needs an umbrella on the cover – was asked by a trouble-making student to give his two cents on the age-old pineapple pizza debate. He did not mince words.

Of course, Guoni can't pass laws on his own because Iceland isn't a dictatorship, although his 97 percent approval ratings are almost dictator-like.

So Icelanders who love to eat Hawaiian pizza and dream of warmer, sunnier shores can rejoice about that. Nevertheless, Guoni's comments revved up the debate once more, and pineapple supporters did not mince their words, either.

A few days later, Guoni posted an explanation of his feelings about pineapple on his Facebook account, with some classic politicking. "I like pineapple, just not on pizza," he wrote.

Sure, Guoni. Sure. Typical waffling, amirite? But it's not like he has a better idea...

Guoni wants us to eat seafood on pizza!

Seafood! On pizza! What is this world even coming to?
