1. Sean was never a hockey fan before this movie.
To be fair – if you're not from the frozen tundra that is Canada I don't think anyone expects you to be...
2. The movie is based on a real guy – Doug "The Thug" Smith.
He's a cop now, and probably one you would not want to mess with.
3. Jay Baruchel co-wrote, produced and starred in Goon!
That's how strong his commitment to hockey and hockey related films is.
4. Jay – who's from Ottawa – actually is in love with the sport and created another Twitter account just so he could talk about The Montreal Canadiens.
This is aggressively Canadian.
5. After a scene where the cast was bullying his character, Sean would go home feeling depressed.
"I’d go home and be like, 'I wanna call my mom. What’s going on here? Why am I so sad?'"
6. Georges Laraque – one of hockey's greats – has a cameo and Sean gets to take him down.
Which is you know... pretty awesome!
7. When Jay met with the real Doug Smith he said he couldn't get over how nice he was.
"When you meet him, you can’t be prepared for how kind he is ... The hardest guys I know are often the most polite guys and the nicest guys."
8. Scott stopped working out for the role. He wanted to be bulky, not muscly.
He is a massive man bear that I want to hug.
9. Despite the realistic fight footage, no one in the cast had any real injuries.
Just a couple of bruises here and there.
10. Jay got engaged to Alison Pill after they met on the set!
They split up though... so that exclamation point might be slight overkill.
11. Doug's butt scoring a goal was based in reality.
A minor league player – weirdly also named Doug – got the puck in the net with his posterior and moved his team onto the finals.
12. Jay said it took getting Liev Schreiber cast before any critics took the movie seriously.
I'm sorry, what's more serious than a guy taking fists to the face for an hour and a half?
13. Scott could barely skate when they started filming.
So when he was failing at even standing still on the ice – that's legit.
14. Jay didn't make his character a hockey player because he knew it wouldn't be believable.
Also he's bad at hockey. So yeah – I'd say that was a smart casting move.
15. The movie took 6 years to make from start to finish!
Worth. Every. Last. Second.
SHAREif you literally cannot wait for the sequel!
