Every Guest Gets A Master Key At This Sketchy Motel

When we talk about "the good old days," we'll fondly remember a time when neighborhoods were so safe and tightly knit that people didn't have to lock their doors at night. You could just trust that people knew right from wrong and wouldn't just walk into your home uninvited after dark, just as you wouldn't do that to anybody else's home. Really, it's one of the cornerstones of civilization. And it's not unreasonable to expect that people wouldn't just open your door whenever they felt like it.

However, it's not like doors back in the good old days didn't have locks on them at all. You still had the option to click a deadbolt into place and secure your home, whether you felt the need to or not. Could you sleep comfortably at night knowing the only thing between you and the outside world was an unlocked door?

Well, that's exactly what happened with these friends on a road trip. And it's one thing to not lock your door in your own neighborhood. When you're miles from home in an unfamiliar place, you want to know you're safe where you sleep. But these folks had their sleep interrupted one night at a motel in New Mexico, and the reason is as mystifying as it is infuriating.

Can you imagine? Don't think I could spend a night there now. This will make me think twice about any room key I'm given in the future!
