Lindsay Lohan rose to Hollywood prominence after starring as twins in the hit remake of The Parent Trap.
Prior to the film's success, she'd made brief sketch appearances on Late Night With David Letterman and was a regular on Another World.
The success of The Parent Trap left all of Hollywood wanting more Lindsay.
After several years of TV movies and short-lived sitcoms, she finally got her second major role alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in Freaky Friday.
By 2004 Lindsay was on top of the world. She was one of the most popular young actresses in Hollywood, and her latest film Mean Girls solidified her as a leading lady.
But as she became more and more famous, Lindsay found herself in trouble. By 2007, she was on the cover of every magazine.Later that year, she was arrested for driving under the influence and possession of cocaine.
She had started partying hard and her fans began to worry.
Just months after her first run in with the law, Lindsay was arrested again. This time the actress was in possession of many different narcotics. She went back to rehab.
The next several years consisted of Lindsay violating the terms of her probation. She showed up late to several court hearings and even drank while wearing an alcohol monitoring system.
Things hit a new low in 2010 when she failed a drug test. She later checked into the Betty Ford rehab clinic.
By 2012 Lindsay had a hit rock bottom. She'd been to jail several times for possession of drugs, but now she was able to add burglary and a hit-and-run to her criminal resume.
She was also almost charged with domestic assault after a heated battle with her own mother.
By 2013, Lindsay had been to rehab a total of six times, and too many run-ins with the law to count.
Her appearance was troubling, and people began worrying about her health. Would she ever be able to turn it around?
