9 Times Men Knew What Was Best For A Woman's Bikini

SHARE
If you went to the beach right now, you would see a lot of skin. Doesn't it seem like there is a competition to be as naked as possible? This wasn't always the case. There used to be very strict rules placed on beach attire, well, mainly for women. Even today, some parts of the world place insane restrictions on women's bathing suits. Why, just why?

Check out these 9 pictures showing times when men (thought they) knew what was best for a woman's bikini.

SHARE this list with your friends on Facebook. It's crazy what control police used to have over a woman's beach attire.

Believe it or not, there was a day and age that women had to beware of their beach attire, or risk be arrested.

As more body-fitting bathing suits started showing up on beaches in the 1920s, signs like these started popping up everywhere.

1. A woman's bathing suit was not allowed to exceed a certain distance above the knee. This was some serious business, as you can tell by the police officer's oddly happy face...

While standards varied from one beach to another, one standard was that a swimsuit could not reveal over six inches of skin above the knee.

2. Apparently, measuring sometimes required two police officers. She seems to be taking this opportunity to do a little modeling. Why not!?

Sometimes these bathing suit checks weren't so easy going...

3. Here are some Chicago police officers arresting a woman for showing too much leg with her bathing suit in 1922.

4. It's important to be sure about the bathing suit length, though. You know how dangerous that extra inch can be...

This picture is also from 1922.

5. Two women being escorted off a beach in Chicago for their scandalous bathing suits.

6. A woman volunteering her leg for measurement in 1933.

7. Peggy Graves getting her bikini measured in 1933.

Again, two men were needed for the most precise measurement possible.

8. Sometimes female officers would be present to make sure other women abided by these strict guidelines.

9. If you think that men only knew what was best for a woman's bikini in the early 1900s, you'd be wrong.

Here are French police officers forcing a woman to disrobe, oddly enough. If you've been living under a rock, the French tried banning the 'burkini' worn by Muslim women. Oddly enough, people had a problem with swimsuits when they were too revealing, but when a woman wants to cover up more because of her religious beliefs, that's uncalled for.

If you ask me, it's about time men start looking after their own...
