It's probably fair to say that the rise of the "no regrets" movement went hand-in-hand with the rise in texting. Instant messaging can be a little too convenient sometimes, can't it? So it's decidedly good news that instant messaging companies have been trying to help us out with that, and it looks like there might be a development on the horizon.
I'm sure we've all hit send a bit too soon on a message we quickly realized we shouldn't have sent.
It's not like everybody makes all the best choices 100 percent of the time, right? And the lessons that come from those choices can be excruciating. So the Holy Grail for text messaging would be a way to intercept a message you instantly regret sending – and now it looks like we might have that ability in the near future.
WhatsApp, the encrypted messaging app with more than 1 billion users, is popular largely because its makers listen to what their customers want.
And according to the Twitter account @WABetaInfo, which tracks all the latest WhatsApp features being tested, users will soon be able to revoke messages.
Images posted on the account show a "revoke" option in a box alongside "reply" and "forward."
It's unknown exactly how long users will have to delete their regretted message, but it's believed that any time before the recipient reads it, you're good to wipe it from existence.
Allowing their users to breathe a sigh of relief could be a game-changer for WhatsApp.
I don't know whether I want to download it or buy stock!
