Tim Tebow Holds A Prom For Kids With Special Needs, And It's The Sweetest Thing

SHARE
It's easy to do the right thing when you know everybody in the world is watching you. You can't tell much about a person by what they do when they're being scrutinized. Their actions are much more telling away from the spotlight, where few people will notice if they're doing something worthy of applause.

So it has to be a huge change to go from playing in front of thousands of people to not having any audience whatsoever. But Tim Tebow has shown his character since leaving the gridiron, devoting much of his life to charity work around the world, and without expectation of applause for his efforts. Even if he doesn't expect it, however, he sure deserves it for this program!

On the field, Tim Tebow had a reputation for being able to rally his teammates and for never, ever giving up. Off the field, he's living up to that reputation even without crowds of adoring fans watching.

One of the most amazing things his foundation does is give teens with special needs a special night every year, a Valentine's prom called "Night to Shine."

If anything, Night to Shine might even be fancier than a typical high school prom, with limos and red carpets delivering the teens to the complimentary event, and crowds on hand to greet them at the door.

Every guest at Night to Shine gets to feel like they're on top of the world, with everyone being crowned King or Queen of the prom — they receive the royal treatment once they're inside with hair and makeup and shoe-shine stations! There's even a karaoke room, and, of course, plenty of dancing.

Night to Shine started small in 2015, with 44 events at churches in 26 states and two foreign countries, with 7,000 attendees in all.

That might not sound small, but the 2016 numbers blew it away: 201 locations and 32,000 guests.

The 2017 Night to Shine promises to be even bigger, with 375 churches in 11 countries hosting an event.

Which means more smiles, more dancing, and more joy around the world — and a night to remember for thousands of teenagers! "When I was at one of the proms last year, a beautifully dressed queen of the prom was hugging me when the girl’s mom leaned over and whispered with tears in her eyes, ‘My daughter will never get married and she will never have children, but tonight you made her feel like a princess!'" Tebow recalls.
