Remember, there's no honor in cheating a puzzle!
So, let's get started. The puzzle requires some kind of straight-edged item. The item, usually toothpicks, are then placed like so:
Don't have toothpicks? Matches are just one of many alternatives!
So, what's the objective? Try to turn these four squares into three squares (not rectangles) with three moves.
No more, no less, and they must all remain connected. Continue reading for the solution.
Have you figured it out yet? If not, don't sweat it!
For the first move, grab the toothpick from the top-left side and place it horizontally beside the bottom-left square (realistically, you can do it from any side).
Next, bring the top piece of the top-left square down to the bottom-right side. Starting to see it come together?
You can see where the square is going to be, but how are you going to get the final square in? I know, this is magical.
Grab the piece from what used to be the bottom-middle square and finish the bottom-right square. Voila!
For a comparison, here is what the square initially looked like!
