A quick note about safety!
Do NOTuse modern compact fluorescent or LED bulbs which contain components and chemicals that make it unsafe to dismantle them for DIYs. The only kind of light bulb you should use for these projects is a standard incandescent one.
1. Show someone you care.
So they'll always be reminded that they're the light of your life.
2. Or just give them money.
Because who would say no to money (I wouldn't. I'd be happy to take some off your hands!).
3. Turn it into an oil lamp.
You can use regular lamp oil, or even something like olive oil to fill the bulb. Glue a washer to the bottom to keep the lamp standing up.
4. Full of hot air.
Using paint or just a Sharpie, you can make cute hot air balloon decorations. I like the vintage look with just the black, but you could also paint them bright colors and glue on rhinestones for flair!
5. Make a tiny terrarium.
6. Or a little aquatic home for a Marimo moss ball.
All these little moss balls need is fresh water every week or so!
7. Deck out your Christmas tree.
The little Santa is my favorite.
8. Smaller incandescents can become jewelry.
Some of the small bulbs are such pretty little shapes, perfect for a necklace.
9. Skinny little bulbs make pretty earrings too.
10. Have a centerpiece that generates conversation.
Don't be fooled. These bulbs areburnt out, but small LED lights have been strung inside to make the piece energy efficient and battery powered.
11. Make a decorative hourglass.
I suppose with some careful math and weighing, you could get just the right amount of sand in there to keep time, but even so, just watching the sand fall is really soothing.
12. Turn them into vases.
You can hang them, make a wire stand for them, or even just use a washer for balance the same way as with the oil lamp project.
13. Put a ship in it.
Big, round bulbs would look extra impressive with a boat inside.
But first!
You should learn how to safely prepare the bulbs!
This tutorial is a great place to start if you want to make any of the projects listed. Each bulb should be hollowed out and cleaned before being used in a DIY project.
