Beer Yoga Is The Fitness Fad We've All Been Waiting For

SHARE
What gets you off the couch and moving? Is it determination to make the most of your day? A promise to yourself to work up a sweat every few days? Guilt over eating an entire family-sized bag of Doritos during a Marvel movie marathon? Trips to the bathroom/fridge and little else? Hey, it's not always as easy as the folks running through the park make it look. Of course, it's not easy for them, either. They had to find their motivation, too. And sometimes you have to find your motivation every single day.

The good news is that fitness groups want to motivate you and get you moving, too. They're always thinking of ways to get people to tap into their motivation – and it looks like one group might have had a stroke of genius.

Finally, someone has decided to stack their efforts to reach a higher state of consciousness through two of the most ancient methods: beer and yoga.

"Both are centuries-old therapies for body, mind and soul," says the website. "The joy of drinking beer and the mindfulness of yoga complement each other, and make for an energizing experience."

It shouldn't be much of a surprise that beer yoga comes from Germany, where beer is religion.

And look at the people doing it! They're so into it! Maybe combining beer and yoga will provide just the right motivation to get more folks stretching in the studio.

Apparently it's as straightforward as it sounds: the instructors pair an otherwise normal yoga class with the consumption of a bottle or two of beer.

Drinking or balancing beer is worked into the poses. "BeerYoga is fun but it’s no joke – we take the philosophies of yoga and pair it with the pleasure of beer-drinking to reach your highest level of consciousness," say instructors Emily and Jhula.

Even though you would think that inhibiting your balance while doing yoga would only make it harder, apparently no yoga experience is necessary – "just an open mind and a love of beer."

And of course, you'll have to be of legal age to drink and you might not want to drive to yoga that day.

What do you think? Would you try beer yoga?
