16 Things That Shouldn't Go In The Fridge

SHARE
You know when you go grocery shopping, open your fridge and then sigh because now you have to play tetris with everything inside to be able to fit your purchases? Well, the truth is that you probably have a bunch of things in your fridge that shouldn'tbe there and a bunch of things that are just taking up space. Did you know that an overcrowded fridge can cause it to freeze things on you? It totally can. And did you know that the fridge can actually ruin the flavor for some foods? It totally can. It also can cause some things to lose their freshness. SO you're going to want to read this, then go straight to your fridge and take these things out of it. #16 is a total shocker! Then share this article and help stop the epidemic of losing the flavor from our foods!

1. Bread

While it makes sense in our minds that keeping a loaf in the fridge will make it last longer, it actually will dry it out, which means that it won't last as long as if you keep it in a bread box, on your counter, or in a cupboard.

2. Garlic

The flavor will fade and everything in your fridge is going to smell like garlic. NOT good.

3. Potato

The cold turns the starches into sugar, which means your potatoes are going to have an off flavor.

You don't be able to guess #7!

4. Tomato

They will turn mushy and it will stunt the beautiful flavor.

5. Onion

Again, the biggest thing that will be affected is the flavor.

6. Honey

First of all, you should know that honey has a long shelf life outside of the fridge, so if you're thinking that it will make it last longer, just know that it's sonot needed. Putting it in the fridge will make it crystalize and it will no longer be spreadable. Just don't ruin your honey. The bees worked so hard to make it. Keep it in your cupboards.

7. Basil

Basil needs warmth. Cold will kill the flavor. Put in water and change the water every couple of days. It will stay happy and fresh and flavorful much longer for you.

8. Whole melons

Note that this is for melons beforeyou cut into them. If you put a whole melon in the fridge it will lose some of its antioxidants. You wouldn't want to take away from the health benefits, would you? No? Then keep that thing on your counter.

9. Apples

Apples will stay crisper and more flavorful if you keep them on the counter.

I've ALWAYS kept #13 in the fridge! NOT ANYMORE!

10. Spices

If you're thinking of doing this, DON'T! It affects the flavor! And the whole point of spices is flavor!

11. Ground coffee

Keep this sealed in an air-tight container outside of the fridge.

12. Baked goods

The fridge will actually cause your baked goods to go stale. Keep them sealed outside of the fridge to keep them fresh.

#16?! I had NO idea!

13. Hot sauce

The cold weakens the flavor and changes the viscosity, which could make it more difficult to pour. Neither of these things are favorable.

14. Fruits with stones (peaches, plums, nectarines...etc.)

These belong on your counter in the sunshine.

15. Oil

Other than nut oils which should be, oils will harden and become cloudy if refrigerated.

16. Soy sauce

The "refrigerate after opening" warning is there, but there is actually enough salt in there for a looooong shelf life, even without refrigeration.

Are you guilty of keeping any of these in your fridge? Comment below!
