Are you ever fooled by British actors who put on amazing American accents? They're so good at it that you think they were born and raised in the U.S.! There are a lot more celebs than you might realize who uprooted their lives from another country to find a better life in the States. Here are the stars who said goodbye to what they were familiar with to seek fame, fortune, and success in Hollywood.
1. Arnold Schwarzenegger
Arnold was born in Austria and moved to the U.S. in 1968 when he was only 21 years old. It was a brave decision for him because he spoke very little English. He went on to become a famous bodybuilder, an action star, and the Governor of California.
2. Mila Kunis
Mila was born in Ukraine and moved with her family to Los Angeles in 1991. Her husband, Ashton Kutcher, revealed that Mila came to the U.S. on a refugee visa. She has gone on to become a huge star in Hollywood. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in Black Swan.
3. Natalie Portman
Natalie was born in Jerusalem and moved with her parents to the U.S. when she was three years old. She now has dual American and Israeli citizenship. Natalie studied at Harvard, she's won an Academy Award, and she continues to act in amazing movies.
Harvard? Whoa. Natalie is one smart lady!
4. Charlize Theron
Charlize is initially from South Africa. When she moved to the States, she studied at the prestigious Joffrey Ballet School in New York. In 2008, she revealed that she had just become a citizen of the U.S.
5. Steve Jobs
Steve accomplished so much in his life. He was a tech genius, a successful businessman, an inventor, the co-founder of Apple, and the CEO of Pixar. Did you know that he is the son of a Syrian immigrant?
6. Audrey Hepburn
Audrey was born in Belgium and lived in several cities around Europe before eventually making the move to the States. She was only 22 years old at the time and she moved so she could star in the stage show of Gigi.
I instantly think of Audrey in New York as Holly Golightly. Breakfast at Tiffany'sis a classic.
7. Pierce Brosnan
The famous James Bond actor was born in Ireland and moved to the U.S. in 1982 to star in NBC's Remington Steele. He didn't become an American citizen until 2004. "I found a whole new life and identity in America," he revealed.
8. Pamela Anderson
Most people just instantly think Pamela is American, but she's actually Canadian! She moved to the States to star in Home Improvement, start her successful career as a Playboymodel and went on to star in Baywatch.
9. Trevor Noah
Trevor is the host of The Daily Show, but he was born in South Africa. He moved to the US in 2011 to start his career as a standup comedian and the rest is history!
I think Trevor's done a great job taking over for Jon Stewart.
10. Rihanna
Rihanna has given so much to us in the form of extremely catchy music. She was born in Barbados but moved to the States to start her music career, and that's when Jay-Z discovered her. And look at where she is now. She's a pop star and a household name.
11. Salma Hayek
Salma was born in Mexico and began her acting career there. After finding success in Mexico, she decided to study acting in Los Angeles in 1991.
12. Elizabeth Taylor
I had no idea, but Elizabeth was born in England to American parents, which gave her dual citizenship. She gave up her U.S. citizenship in 1967, but later she applied to become an American citizen again.
