1. Kelly grew up in Fort Worth, Texas where she was already showing signs of becoming a star! She told Reader's Digest that by the time she was 11 years old, she had already written her first song.
2. In middle school, the school choir teacher happened to hear her singing in the hallway and told her to audition for the school choir.
3. Kelly moved out to LA to try to make it as a singer. Unfortunately, things weren't working out. So when she was 20 years old, she decided to audition for American Idol.
4. After charming the audience every week, Kelly finally was crowned the winner of American Idol in 2002.
Her debut single, "A Moment Like This" immediately topped the Billboard Hot 100 and became the best-selling single that year!
5. The next year, Kelly debuted her first album Thankful and it shot to the top of the charts! It was pretty clear that Kelly was taking over the music scene!
That album is SO good. Remember how many amazing songs were on it? "The Trouble with Love Is," "Miss Independent" and "Before Your Love" were the songs I always listened to.
6. But that wasn't enough for Kelly. She released her next album a year later that debuted a edgier sound from her. She reinvented her image and it worked! Breakaway ended up selling over 15 million copies and she won two Grammys for it!
Don't try to tell me you don't know all the lyrics to "Breakaway." "I'LL SPREAD MY WINGS AND I'LL LEARN HOW TO FLY. I'LL DO WHAT IT TAKES 'TIL I TOUCH THE SKY. AND I'LL MAKE A WISH, TAKE A CHANCE, MAKE A CHANGE AND BREAKAWAY." Honestly, such a good song. SO GOOD.
7. The album ended up having five very successful singles and Kelly was basically on top of the world!
8. She performed her hit singles all over the world on tour and for awards show. Remember her crazy performance for "Since U Been Gone" for the MTV VMAs where she sang in the rain?!
9. She dropped her third album My December in 2007. Kelly was very proud of the album because she was an executive producer on it and she also co-wrote every single song! Unfortunately, the label didn't really promote the album because of the edgier sound Kelly was going for.

10. My December didn't quite match the sales of her other albums but that just meant Kelly worked even harder in the studio to prove everyone wrong.
11. She released her fourth album All I Ever Wanted and it was an instant smash hit! She was back in the pop music game and killing it!
She even got the chance to sing for President Obama! Is she fully living her life or what?!
12. In 2013, Kelly got married to the love of her life! She met Brandon Blackstock through Reba McEntire and they had a beautiful wedding at Blackberry Farm in Walland, Tennessee.
Kelly became a stepmother to Brandon's son and daughter from his previous marriage. Kelly looks stunning in her wedding pictures!
13. The following year, Kelly had her first daughter – she's named River Rose.

14. A lot of changes happened in Kelly's life. She released two more albums full of original music AND she released a Christmas album.
15. In 2016, Kelly gave birth to a second child and she made her triumphant return to American Idol where she gave an emotional performance of her single, "Piece By Piece." Her performance left all the judges and everyone in the audience in tears!
