Somebody Invented Grilled Cheese Donuts But They're Teasing Us With A Limited Run

SHARE
As comfort foods go, it's hard to beat a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup. For me, it brings back memories of warming up after a day of building snowmen and playing hockey. Everyone has their own special meal tied to happy memories, and I suspect many of them have one associated with grilled cheese and tomato soup. It's a classic pairing – which only makes the idea of grilled cheese donuts that much more enticing.

If you've ever dreamed of combining chewy, soft, sweet donuts with crispy, melty, gooey grilled cheese, dream no more – provided you can be in New York on a weekend before St. Patrick's Day.

That's right, you can only get them on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and only 20 of them a day. If that's not enough of a tease, after March 12, you're on your own.

Which is a hearty shame, because they look heavenly. They're made from habanero glazed bacon donuts, packed with mozzarella and suspended over tomato soup.

If that doesn't grab your attention, nothing will. It's pretty much the perfect comfort food. No word on whether they're serving them with a side of Lipitor, but cholesterol can't be your only concern in life, can it?

The grilled cheese donuts, dreamed up by the good wizards at The Doughnut Project, are being served at New York's Clinton Hall.

You'll want to get there early, obviously. With only 20 of them available per day, they're sure to be in demand.

For the rest of us, there are few options other than to dream and maybe try to re-create this donut genius at home.

Although something tells me slapping a slice of American cheese on a Safeway donut won't be quite the same.
