For stars, the pressure is even worse. There's no hiding out in your bedroom, waiting for the crappy parts of puberty to pass. You're out in the limelight for all to see, and are criticized regularly. Is it any wonder celebs like the Kardashians or Nicki Minaj have given in?
For one Korean celebrity, going under the knife didn't go quite as well as it did for some of those celebs.
Even when someone is perfect the way they are, they can feel pressure to change.
Like Hang Mioku, a beautiful South Korean model.
She was a natural beauty, but began getting work done after moving to Japan to further her career.
She was only 28, and wanted facial injections to make her face softer.
Sadly, they had the opposite effect.
She soon became addicted to going under the knife, getting more and more work done.
Doctors refused to perform any more surgery, but Hang was desperate.
Addicted to surgery and struggling with a mental disorder, she found a surgeon willing to do injections. Even worse, he sent her home with silicone and a syringe to do them herself.
She took matters into her own hands, doing the silicone injections at home.
Unfortunately, her story was about to take a turn for the worse.
When she ran out of silicone, she decided to start using cooking oil instead.
Over time, her face became more and more disfigured. She was shown on national television as people held fundraisers to help her get restorative surgery.
Doctors were able to remove much of the silicone and oil.
But sadly, Mioku suffered a lot of scarring.
After a total of 10 operations, Hang Mioku's face is back down to a healthy size.
Despite this, she is living as normal a life as she can.
She is currently working in a recycled clothing shop in Korea called "The Beautiful Shop," and is no longer addicted to plastic surgery.
