I'm not going to lie, I loved watching it and then reenacting the scenes right after. I just wanted to be one of the cool Lost Boys! And of course, the best scene to reenact was the duel between Peter and Hook. It's been years since I've seen the movie but I think it might be time to rewatch it. And you should too... but right after you read these awesome, behind-the-scenes facts about the movie!
1. Robin Williams and Steven Spielberg became best friends after making Hook. When Robin passed away, Steven watched the movie to remember his friend, but couldn't finish it because he couldn't stop crying for hours.
RIP Robin </3
2. Just as Hook enters Wendy's house to kidnap the children, Nana the dog appears. If you listen closely, she can actually be heard barking "Woof! Woof! Hoof! Hoof! HOOK!" which makes Toodles wake up and say "Hook!"
Okay it's definitely time for me to rewatch this movie again. I need to hear this for myself!
3. Captain Hook's hat has a very special design on it. Notice the gold fabric triangles around the hat? They represent crocodiles teeth, which foreshadows his death!
4. The pirate who was locked in the chest with a scorpion was actually played by Glenn Close!
That's right! Academy Award winner Glenn Close said yes to a beard and a beer belly!
5. Julia Roberts' nickname on set was "Tinkerhell" because she was so difficult to work with! She forced everybody to stop filming because after her wedding to Keifer Sutherland was called off she fled the country!
Steven Spielberg was FURIOUS when he found out and called her in Ireland where she was hiding out. He threatened to fire her if she wasn't back on set the next day!
6. That's not even the craziest thing about Julia during this movie. She actually had an assistant dedicated to cleaning her feet because Julia was suspended in the air as Tinkerbell.
7. Raushan Hammon who played Thud Butt revealed that the scene where Peter passes his sword to one of the Lost Boys was improvised. Nobody but Robin and Steven knew who he was going to pass the sword to.
That's why the reaction from all the boys is genuine.
8. When the Bannings fly to England, the pilot's voice is actually Dustin Hoffman, who plays Captain Hook!
The captain of the ship and the captain of the airplane!
9. When Granny Wendy is telling the children about the story of Peter Pan, she's actually holding the first edition of the book!
10. Gwyneth Paltrow made a brief cameo as teenage Wendy. Hookwas only her second movie!
11. If you look closely, the names of all the original Lost Boys actually appear on the door to Wendy's house.
12. When the Captain is getting his hook fitted to his arm for the first time, it had to be shot in one take! To get the magical flicker effect, the crew had to use these special and rare light bulbs that could only be used once.
13. Even though Dustin killed it as Captain Hook, the role was actually offered to David Bowie first!
14. Remember the kissing couple who float when fairy dust lands on them? That's actually a cameo by George Lucas and Carrie Fisher!
Star Wars colliding with Hook? Now that would be an epic movie!
15. The screenwriter James V. Hart came up with the story after his son Jake asked him what would happen if Peter Pan grew up.
And now Hook is a classic children's movie!
