Head injuries in sports is a hot topic as of late. Most of the time, American football receives the most attention with respect to head injuries as repeated concussions has been shown to affect a person's brain much more than doctors first thought.

Now, however, an incredibly bizarre story is making its way around the internet involving a young man from Georgia who got a severe concussion playing soccer. That's not the craziest part of the story, though. Reuben Nsemoh went into a coma for several days and woke up speaking fluent Spanish after only knowing a few Spanish phrases before the event.

You have to know Reuben's odd yet fascinating story. This truly shows that doctors are just beginning to understand how the brain responds to injury...SHARE this story with your friends on Facebook. They aren't going to believe this...

Meet 16-year-old Georgia teen Reuben Nsemoh.

He has been thrown into the spotlight recently for a very bizarre reason.

Unfortunately, Reuben was severely injured doing what he loves most: goaltending.

The star goaltender was kicked directly in the head by an opponent as Reuben dove for the ball.

He was immediately airlifted to the Atlanta Medical Center where he was diagnosed with a concussion after falling into a coma.

After three days in a coma, something quite remarkable happened.

He woke up speaking fluent Spanish, which was odd considering he only knew a few Spanish phrases before the injury.

This extremely rare condition is known as "foreign accent syndrome." An expert on the condition previously described what may be going on in the brain when this condition arises. Dr. Karen Croot said, "Speech is one of the most complicated things we do, and there are a lot of brain centers involved in coordinating a lot of moving parts. If one or more of them are damaged, that can affect the timing, melody and tension of their speech."

Reuben has experienced some other issues related to the injury as well...

Even though Reuben has come out of the coma alive, he has noticed clear differences in his ability to think clearly.

Reuben said, "Sometimes I daze out. Sometimes I feel like I'm not there, but I am." His family is concerned because they aren't sure of the extent of the damage from the concussion. Reuben is continuing to have seizures as well.

Reuben's mother Dorah discussed what life was like after her son's bizarre and heartbreaking medical situation.

"Our life has changed through this process," she told WSB-TV. She explained that Reuben still cannot go to school after the incident and that the medical bills have currently added up to $200,000.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Reuben and alleviate some of the pressure they are feeling as a result of the substantial medical bills.

You can find Reuben's GoFundMe page here.

For another bizarre case where someone woke up knowing a foreign language, this man woke up speaking French.
