Here's How A Celeb Gets A Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

If you've been to Los Angeles, there are a couple things you definitely have to do. You have to go see the Hollywood sign, and you have to see the stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! If you get a chance to see the stars, you'll notice that there are a variety of people who have them. And you might even notice that a bunch of A-list celebrities don't get their own special spot to call their own. There's a whole process of how to get a coveted star, and there are even strict rules. Here's what celebs need to go through to permanently be part of the city of Los Angeles!

1. It's not just some random committee that decides who gets to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It's an organization called the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

Ooh, that sounds important and fancy.

2. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce gets together and usually chooses around 24 celebrities each year to get a star.

3. Technically, anyone can applyfor a star. Seriously, anyone can do it! All it takes is filling out an application and paying a fee. But submissions won't be taken seriously unless the person is very accomplished.

4. So what's the application? It's filling out some forms, writing a bio and signing a letter that states they will be there for the ceremony if they get a star.

5. And that fee is a pretty hefty one. If they are selected to receive a star, celebs have to pay $30,000 or they won't get the star.

6. Half of that goes to building the star and the other half is for making sure it sparkles for fans and tourists for years to come.

7. That's probably the reason why a ton of your favorite celebs don't have a star. They might not want one or don't want to pay the fee!

8. But sometimes, fans come through for their idols. Liza Minnelli's fan club raised the money through fun events like bake sales.

9. After celebs go through the trouble of filling out the application, it lasts for two years. If they don't get chosen, they can reapply as many times as they want.

10. Once a celebrity is selected to get a star, there's something else they have to think about: where they want the star. Some celebs have enough star power to get a say, but some don't.

11. And then comes the grand ceremony where the star is unveiled to the celebrity and they give a speech. Supposedly, the committee expects around 600 people for ceremonies, but they welcomed 4,000 fans one time.

The ceremony was for a mariachi singer named Vicente Fernández.
