6-Year-Old Girl Chooses To Feed The Homeless Instead Of Getting Birthday Presents

When I was six, I think all I wanted for my birthday was a new pack of crayons and a stack of fresh coloring books — actually, I'd like a similar gift for my 32nd birthday, please and thanks! — but Armani Crews has proven that she's no normal six-year-old. Instead of a party and presents for her birthday on March 5th, she decided she wanted to feed the homeless.

According to her parents, Artesha and Antoine Crews, Armani had been asking to feed the homeless for a few months, but when they finally offered to make some sandwiches, that wasn't good enough for her.

Her mom remembers her responding, "No. I want the same thing we'd have at my birthday party."

Armani wasn't deterred when her father told her it would have to be instead of a birthday gift. After spending about $300 on groceries, the family set up a buffet line in Chicago's East Garfield Park neighborhood.

The spread had chicken, fish, spaghetti, corn, green beans, and mashed potatoes. For treats, there were rolls, cake, and cookies, as well as some fruit and water.

They didn't stop there, though. After their plan was shared with their local church, the congregation members collected useful items and made care packages to hand out as well.

The packages included a small snack, such as a granola bar, plus basic hygiene products, like a toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, and hand sanitizer.

In the end, the family estimates that they fed more than 125 homeless people, and Armani enjoyed it so much that she wants to host another meal soon.

When asked what it was like, Armani told ABC News, "It was nice to be nice."
