The Hole Next To Your iPhone Camera Is A Noise Cancelling Microphone

There always seems to be something new that we're learning about iPhones. The new thing right now? iPhones have holes that have an unexplainable purpose. Well, that's not true, there is a purpose. There's always an explanation for everything, you just need to find it! Over the past few months, people have been trying to figure out what the purpose of that mysterious hole next to the back camera on an iPhone is used for. Is it a light sensor? Is it a microphone? So, what is it and what exactly does it do?

In case you don't know which hole I'm referring to, it's the one placed between the camera lens and flash.

People have had multiple theories as to what it is. One theory is that it's a reset button.

Does that mean you should go poking things into it? Probably not, because it's not actually a reset button.

Funny enough, Apple actually shows what the hole is. It's a microphone, but not just any microphone.

Three microphones? Kind of sounds like overkill, right? Wrong. The microphone on the back helps to receive the audio more accurately from another angle while blocking out unnecessary noise.

Basically, Apple wants you, and whoever you're calling, to have the ultimate experience. 

Apple has really been stepping it up with their audio game by adding a bunch of new features to their iPhones.

We know the bottom mic is used for when we're talking on the phone, the back for noise cancellation, but what about the top one (in the speaker?!).

The top microphone presents a new angle for the phone to receive audio (like the back one). It helps with all kinds of things.

The top front and top back microphones aren't just for noise cancellation, they clear up audio when you're taking videos, using Snapchat, and Siri.

Yup, that's right. Being able to yell at Siri from across the room? That's because of the extra two microphones on your phone. Thanks, Apple!

The speaker has also been upgraded, giving you a much better experience. Is there a limit to Apple's improvements? Nope, because there's more.

Hah, you thought the noise cancelling only applied to the people LISTENING to you (videos, snapchats, calls, etc). Nope, they've also improved the earpiece on the users' end as well, even if the person you're calling doesn't have the best phone.
