Renée Zellweger Reveals Why She Had To Leave Hollywood

SHARE
I don't know about you but I happen to love watching rom coms. I can watch them all day and never get sick of them. There are a ton of great rom coms out there that deserve to be in the top 10 list. But none of them can even come close to taking the top spot from Bridget Jones's Diary. Renée Zellweger, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant are perfect together in the movie. It's comedy and romance gold! We've been patient and now we're finally being rewarded with another sequel! Renée is back and better than ever. And she's finally opening up about why she took a break from acting and why she just really needed to leave Hollywood behind.

Renée started off her career with a bang. Her first major movie role was in Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generationand the parts kept getting bigger and better.

She stole our hearts in Jerry Maguire but it was Bridget Jones's Diary that turned her into the star she is today.

She killed it with the British accent and played the lovable and awkward dork part well. I mean, didn't we all see a bit of Bridget in all of us?

I'm not going to lie, I tried to keep a diary because she did it. Guys, it's really hard to keep a diary!

Renée continued to act and even won an Oscar! But then she disappeared. But now she's back and ready to take back her rightful spot in Hollywood. So why did she leave? Keep reading to find out!

Renée Zellweger's last movie was back in 2010! But after taking six years off, she's back and is a changed woman.

She revealed that she had to leave Hollywood to "explore new things."

She wanted to grow as a person outside of the entertainment industry.

"I had a lot of promises that I made to myself, years ago, about things that I wanted to learn and try," she said to People magazine. And she did quite a bit in her time off!

During her time off, She traveled to Thailand, Cambodia and Liberia to work with a gender equality organization.

And she had nothing but amazing things to say about her time off! "I think traveling off the beaten path is a good idea for anybody because it's essential for understanding not just the rest of the world, but yourself."

She also spent time taking college classes! But she declined to say where or in what subject.

“I wanted to learn something that had nothing to do with researching a character. I wanted to learn some things beyond the scope of what you are exposed to in filmmaking in Hollywood," she explained.

Even though she loved taking time off, she felt an undeniable pull back to show business.

She said that returning for Bridget Jones's Baby was a "no-brainer" and that she started to miss it and felt ready to come back.

Renée said coming back and filming the movie was easy because of the cast and their support.

"I am spoiled rotten for the friendships that I have on this set."

So what does Renée have to say about Bridget after playing her three times? She still loves the character! She said she loves that Bridget hasn't "refined her social graces" and that "she's hopeless romantic and optimistic."

Welcome back, Renée! We missed you dearly!
