The world is filled with so many kinds of people. You have those who are always trying to do kind things for one another, then you have the people who just want to see everyone else miserable. What often happens is that we ignore the horrible things happening around us and only pay attention to ourselves. While it may not be true for every situation, we're often unaware that something awful could be happening just down the street from us. We trust law enforcement to protect us and uphold laws, which they generally do an amazing job of. What's even more surprising of them is the fact that they often go above and beyond the call of duty, just like this officer did.
Officer Steve Dunham had received a call about a child wandering around without an adult, so he went to check it out. When he arrived at the CVS where the child was, he began talking to the 7-year-old only to find out he was attempting to sell his teddy bear so he could afford something to eat. This is the point where I started choking up because, quite honestly, that's one of the saddest things I've ever heard. Officer Dunham, being the magnificent officer he is, took the child to Subway so he could eat, since he hadn't eaten in days. Afterwards, Officer Dunham visited the child's home to inspect the place. An inspection of the house found that the boy, along with other siblings, were living in absolute filth with no food to be found. Thanks to Officer Dunham and the police department in Franklin, the kids are now with other family members and are staying in much more suitable living conditions.
If you had found this boy, what would you have done?
