The Weird Reason Why A Bunch Of Celebs Don't Have A Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

In the world of showbiz there are a handful of awards that literally everyone wants to get their hands on. Ask any aspiring actor, filmmaker, writer, comedian or singer what they dream of at night, and they'll probably tell you that they want to see their name on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. Sure, winning an Oscar or a Grammy is great too, but getting your name on the Walk Of Fame is truly something magical. For the rest of eternity, tourists and passersby will see that name and those hand prints.

But did you know that many worthy celebs haven't gotten their name on the Walk for one really weird reason?

The iconic Hollywood Walk Of Fame exists on a total of 18 blocks down Hollwood Boulevard and Vine Street.

And since the mid-1950s, some of entertainment's brightest stars have seen their name go down on the historical sidewalk.

In order to get a spot on the Walk Of Fame, you have to be nominated.

And every year, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Walk of Fame Selection Committee receives hundreds of nominations from which they have to decide who is worthy.

But in order for a nomination to be considered, the celebrity and their management must accept it.

Once they accept it, the committee can then decide who to honor.

Seeing as the Walk has been around for almost 70 years and hundreds of nominations are made each year, how can it be that certain celebs don't have a star?

Well the answer is pretty interesting...

Well once a celebrity accepts their nomination, the Committee chooses about 24 people to honor.

However, if chosen, the celeb has to sign a contract saying that they'll actually show up to the ceremony, but that's not all...

They also have to cough up close to $30,000!

The Committee says that half of this fee goes towards the actual creation of the star, and the other half goes towards upkeep throughout the years.

That's a lot of money!

Apparently the person who made the nomination is supposed to pay the fee, but many times the celebs hand over the money themselves.

That's right, you have to pay to win this award!

Over the years, several actors have turned down a nomination.

People like Clint Eastwood, Julia Roberts and even George Clooney said no to the offer.

Though some have admitted that they find such an award to be silly, you kind of have to wonder... maybe they just don't want to pay that hefty fee?

And really, can you blame them?!

I don't care how rich you are, that's a lot of money!

Some have argued that the fee should be paid by the Committee or at least lowered so that celebs can be honored without having to pay a hefty bill.

However as it stands, the current process will remain as it has for the past fifty or so years.

Do you think that celebs should have to pay for their own star? COMMENTand share your thoughts.
