15 Interesting Things To Know About Benedict Cumberbatch

It seems like British actors are invading Hollywood! They're so good at doing the American accent that you forget that they have a very charming British accent in real life! Everybody these days is fawning over Tom Hiddleston, Eddie Redmayne, Idris Elba and Tom Hardy. And while fangirls on Tumblr have been obsessed with him for awhile, Benedict Cumberbatch is about to become one of the biggest stars on the planet. He's already been nominated for an Oscar and is on the popular TV show Sherlock but he's about to become a Marvel superhero! So remember the name even though it's long because he's about to be everywhere. Here's everything you need to know about Benedict Cumberbatch!

1. Benedict is probably most known for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock. But there was a part of him that wanted to turn down the role! He said he was worried that the remake would be "cheap and cheesy."

2. He played the villain in Star Trek: Into Darkness. For his audition, he sent a video of him reading lines in a friend's kitchen on an iPhone. 

3. Before he went to university, he spent a year teaching English at a monastery in Tibet!

4. He loves his fans but sometimes they go too far! One time, he was cyberstalked by a fan. The fan actually live-tweeted everything he did when he was at home!

5.  Benedict was kidnapped in South Africa! He was traveling back to his hotel with a group of people when they were ambushed by a group of men who tied them up and drove them to the middle of nowhere. They almost forced him into the trunk but he managed to escape from that by talking his way out of it! 

He lied and said he had a heart condition and if he was stuck in the trunk, he wouldn't be able to breathe properly and would die. They ended up leaving Benedict and the others without an explanation! Yikes! That sounds terrifying!

6. His favorite movie to watch over and over again is Ghostbusters.

7. Benedict doesn't understand why he has so many adoring fans talking about his looks. He's said before that he looks like Sid the Sloth from Ice Age!

8. He is ridiculously good at doing impressions. His favorite one to do (and his most accurate!) is Alan Rickman. He even voiced Alan in an episode of The Simpsons. 

9. He's a huge fan of extreme sports. He's not afraid to do it all! He's gone skydiving, bungee jumping and scuba diving. 

10. Benedict's dad used to read him The Hobbit as a bedtime story. He said he couldn't believe it when he was cast as Smaug in the trilogy! 

He also admitted that he totally ripped off his dad's portrayal of the character for his performance in the movie!

11. Even though he's on a successful TV show, he really appreciates other dramas on TV. His favorite shows are The Wire, The West Wing, Mad Menand The Sopranos. 

12. Benedict dyes his hair black to play Sherlock. The day before filming the pilot, his hair turned green due to the dye! But it ended up fine because it was fixed and filming went on as planned!

13. He's a huge fan of Robert Downey Jr. and he can't believe that the two of them get to play Sherlock Holmes!

14. In several interviews, Benedict revealed that he's always wanted to be a dad. It's one of the things he was looking forward to most in life. 

15. He met his wife Sophie Hunter on the set of Burlesque Fairytales. And now they have a son named Christopher and another baby on the way!
